Bible Study

Bible Study has been going on for over 2,000 years. Christians believe that the Bible guides our lives and thought. Christian Leaders Institute believes that Bible Study is the seed for actually hearing what God has to say to humans whether in our devotion (personal walk), in our marriages (marriage walk)  in our relationships (small groups) and our ministry leadership.

Devotional Bible Study

The Bible is a relational book. The Bible explains how humans can relate to the living God everyday. Christians can talk to God through prayer and listen to God through the Bible via devotional Bible study. See CLI President Henry Reyenga explain how you can start a relationship with God. Small Group Bible Studies

Christian have grouped together to study the Bible. The grouping may be at family devotional groups or small groups at churches, homes, restaurants, and work places. Many house churches are really small groups Bible studies. In families, a father or mother may create a culture where the Bible is read and memorized. Home signing may occur. Christian Leaders Institute calls this home discipleship. Christians may group together to study the Bible intentionally. The combined Bible Study effort create spiritual synergy and many insight come forward inspired by the Holy Spirit. See CLI Provost Explain the work of the Holy Spirit. Click here. Sometimes small group Bible studies are supportive in nature. The Bible is opened in a more devotional way and discussion inspires support of real life issues and problem.  Another type of Bible study group is more discipleship oriented. New believers meet with mentors to learn the Basics of the Bible as their faith is nurtured.  There are even more types of small groups that study the Bible,  Bible Gateway explains devotional approaches that may add to the list.

The Sermon Bible Study

A Sermon is Bible study given in formal setting. Usually, this study is given in front of a congregation of believers. The idea expectation is that the giver of the sermon has formal education. A sermon reflects the study of the preacher in an interesting and organized way, bringing applications and encouragement to those who listen. Christian Leaders Institute offers free formal study for those who are called to preach sermons.

Formal Bible Study

Formal Bible study is often called Biblical studies. This Biblical study has traditionally been done at Bible colleges and seminaries. In most cases the trained pastors had access to in-depth curriculum. Through Christian Leaders Institute now ordinary people can study the Bible in their home. Christian Leaders Institute believes that Bible study truly is the axis of relationship with God in your personal, marriage, family, small groups, church, kingdom and world contacts. The post is this category reflect our passion to bring the study of the Bible to greater heights.

Christ Ambassador

My name is Jaime Denton and I am a Christ ambassador. I’ve come to realize how being a follower of God innately means to be a leader among people. I grew up in a Navy family, moving every year or two and traveling often. My upbringing was strongly Christian, as my father was a Chaplain and my mother was devotedly active in the church. Believing in God was effortless. I became a Christian at age five and thought I was joining a worldwide “cult of kindness” that existed as an after-effect of God’s love (1 John 4:19). The theme of Christian leadership was central to my life, always being coached to think of myself as a Christ ambassador for both God and country.

The older I grew, the more disappointed and embittered I became with any system that allowed for duplicity. At age eleven, I announced to my family that I still believed in God but would no longer call myself a Christian. At age fourteen, I read a book that changed the trajectory of my whole life: “Pagan Christianity” by Frank Viola and George Barna. The book examined how paganism influenced the early church and had developed many damaging traditions still being carried today. I was heartbroken yet wildly ecstatic: God was being misrepresented! Then, at age sixteen, my mother gave me the book “Memoir of a Misfit: Finding My Place in the Family of God” by Marcia Ford. Maybe there was a place for me, too, in the family after all.

Years later, I’m now being led to study biblical hermeneutics, ecclesiology, and other subjects at CLI that will help me better recognize misinformation and live with greater purpose. I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology, so cannot financially continue higher education. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity with Christian Leaders Institute that will be pivotal in my personal journey and will, in turn, help others. As a Christ ambassador, I’ve worked as a social worker for the homeless, an advocate for refugee immigrants, and a handyman “foot-washer” doing home repairs for impoverished widows, single moms, and other vulnerable people. While I may never preach from a pulpit, there’s nowhere I could go that wouldn’t benefit from what I’ll learn here at Christian Leaders Institute.

Ministry Evangelism Training

My name is Twana Mack and I am receiving ministry evangelism training at Christian Leaders Institute. I currently live in the USA, but I have also lived in Germany and Canada and in five different states in the USA. I have traveled to many countries including Israel with the most recent mission trip to Uruguay last March. He has truly blessed me with my heart’s desire to travel the world.

Being raised in a Christian home, I found the Lord at a young age, but understanding and having a true relationship with him came many years later. I found myself away from God living in sin and one night He called me out saying, “Chose this day whom you will serve.” From that moment, I cried out and asked him to forgive me of my sins and cleanse me. He saved me and I felt the wonderful grace, mercy, and love of my Savior. My life was changed, it was amazing. I desired to share what God did in my life and to tell others of Jesus Christ and His love. I desired to evangelize. As the Bible says in 2 Peter 1:10 KJV “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.”

When I was called into ministry, I had a lot of fear if it was the right path to follow. But I began to pray and really search His word. I attended a Bible institute to prepare for the ministry. My husband is a minister in our denomination and we have found our ministries compliment each other and we are a team. God uses us together. So, I’m living my dream in that I desire to please the Lord with my whole life. Ecclesiastes 9:10 KJV “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”

We are currently serving as overseers, pastors, and we also take mission trips. I found I desired more knowledge in the word. This life is a battle and when you have gaps in your knowledge it is a weakness. My husband studies his word very diligently. Since I had suffered from a coma, I found I needed more structured learning which Christian Leaders Institute provides me.

I feel my calling as an evangelist most clearly in my ministry evangelism training journey. I feel the anointing as I tell others about Jesus Christ and how he can change them through salvation, sanctification, and the Holy Ghost. I feel a burning in my soul to reach out to those who may have never heard of him. I ask the Lord every day to let me meet someone to share the love of Christ to and God has never failed that prayer.

Nineteen years ago, Satan had convinced me that God did not love me, would never love me and others would never love me. I had a very simple surgery shortly after I was saved. Well, it went horrifically wrong. The doctors gave my family the news that I only had a five percent chance to live. I’m thankful that they loved and prayed for me. It was four months of being in a coma and then waking to find myself in such a horrific situation. Unable to talk, walk, feed myself, and more. I felt God’s love and peace. I felt this mercy I had never felt before. It was like God knew my very secret parts and he said I wasn’t done until I knew his great love. I sat in that bed as he repaired my body, and I also felt him repairing my soul. The breathing ventilator soon came out and I took my first breath knowing I was his child loved beyond measure. I thank God for what he did for me. I have completely healed in my body and my soul. And I never felt unloved again.

Last September, my husband and I were living in another state and he was called back to my home state to minister. We found that hurricane Harvey left devastation. Our local church had five feet of water and had been gutted to the studs. Every house in that community was destroyed. Everywhere you look there is the loss of things and when you look at their faces, you see the hopelessness of people trying to survive without God. There is great need for the message of hope in Christ. I found I can live without a lot of things. We lost our retirement home in the hurricane and we currently live in a house without carpet, doors, and cabinets. But I can not live without Christ. So the struggle in my location is to reach out to the broken hearted. It is more than just helping to rebuild a house. My area needs a Savior!

My local church is amazing and very supportive of my ministry. They encourage and pray for me. I am able to preach regularly and minister to the members as needed. I work very closely with the pastor. I serve as co-pastor.

I had a wonderful grandfather who was a Bishop who mentored me in the ministry until the day he died. I didn’t realize how much this impacted me until I became a minister myself. I did not even realize what mentorship involved. I look back and always smile and say he was a great man of God. My parents served as deacons and called teachers. They gave me wisdom, direction, and many payers. My husband has supported me in so many ways for the last 33 years. And my children pray for me as I continue in my ministry evangelism training. I would not be the woman I am today without my family.

A scholarship at Christian Leaders Institute is important to my ministry evangelism training to increase my knowledge of the word of God and to be able to apply that knowledge to make my ministry more productive and effective.

My name is Judith Ferguson-Missick. I am 54 years old and from the Bahamas. I am the first of 10 children by my mother and father but there are 26 half siblings by my father. I live in the greater Miami area for over 35 years. I am married to my husband Luellen Missick for 32 years and we have three children along with three grandchildren. I serve at The Open Bible Church in North Miami Fl for 11 years under Pastor Albert Guthrie.

I accepted the Lord at the tender age of 11, but as I got older, I wandered away from the Lord. At the age of 36, during a very turbulent time in my life, the Lord opened my eyes to Him in the most dramatic and radical way. One New Year’s Eve night, I was getting ready for a party while looking in the mirror for a last look before I left the house; I saw a vision of the condition of my soul; a grotesque, decomposing skeletal creature was staring back at me… I was shocked and horrified by what I saw, fear took hold of me; I tried to gather my composure, my husband who was not going out with me and probably did not want me to go either was confused by my reaction. I didn’t say anything to him as I too was confused. I sat at the foot of the bed trying to understand what just happened. Then, a very strong impression with a voice came to my mind as if I could literally hear it in the natural saying “if you were to go to this party tonight; that which you saw in the mirror will be your final end…” I realized quickly it must have been the Lord warning and showing me what looked like in the spirit. Right then and there my life had changed, I whispered “Jesus…” I mustered up the courage and looked again in the mirror this time I saw my natural face. I did leave the house that night however it was to go to a church and publicly turn my life over to God. I gave my entire life to Christ at the midnight hour of 1999 at a little church in Coconut Grove called Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Florida.

I grew there in the Lord with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Elders. I developed an insatiable hunger and thirst for the word of God. Two years later I was asked to teach Sunday school, which led to filling in for the pastor in Bible study; which ultimately led to me preaching all within a few short years. My life has been an incredible adventure in the Lord, life for me has never been the same. Hence I don’t think I’ve ever been bored since I gave over my life to Christ. I had some real challenges and some very difficult storms in my life, but the Lord saw me through them all. I trust in His faithfulness. My husband was not a believer and was in some way not very fond of my new life, but through many prayers, the Lord changed his life. He is now a deacon who takes the task of opening the door and welcoming each person to the Sunday morning service a serious duty he also sings for the Lord which is a personal joy for me; what an awesome God we serve! I minister in many capacities in my church mainly as an evangelist with a heart for mission. My dreams are to continue evangelism training.

My passion for God and serving in His kingdom is the best thing that ever happened to me. Helping people to not only accept the Lord but grow in the Him is a call I accepted and very serious about. I believe with all my heart that if people would have good understanding of the word of God, they allow the Holy Spirit to lead them into a changed life in the word of God, they will achieve as the book of Joshua calls it “good success” and peace will flow into their lives like the mighty river; regardless of the difficulties of life. I love the Lord with all my heart. I desire to help others and develop a continuous and meaningful relationship with the Lord. I look forward to my studies with CLI and hoping for my ordination process. I am greatly excited for what this ministry and evangelism training will entail. I am willing to take as many courses possible to make sure I did not miss anything vital. I have formal study training with the Open Bible Church INSTE Bible College and accredited in Des Moines, Iowa. I completed level 1 with above average grades, but due to cost constraints I was unable to start level 2 which comes with ordination. I can’t tell you how happy I am to find your school the feeling that at long last I can accomplish my goals and move ahead with confidence, that I have the knowledge and understanding that is essential to the Call of the Lord and my ministry… It is my prayer that CLI and I will have a lifelong relationship. After completing the ” getting started class” I can say, I have truly experienced a revival; I came to CLI with a desire to get more training to help my walk with God, and a ministry to help the inner-city youth in Miami; I truly believe I have already benefited from this course, praise the Lord! I now look forward to CLI with anticipation… I also look forward to writing a book of my story there is so much more to tell of the incredible work of the Lord in my life. The journey to my book begins here at CLI. Thank you, I hope you would consider me for a scholarship may God continue to bless you and your school.

Bible Study Minister Education

My name is John Blevins. I live in a small town in North East U.S.A. I was lucky enough to be born in the Bible Belt. It seemed as if everyone I came in contact with believed in our Lord Jesus Christ. So my entire life I was exposed to religion and knew from the very start that Jesus died for me.

In my youth, my Mom and her parents kept us in the Church of Christ.I didn’t agree with the way they saw women. Women were very limited in what they were allowed to participate in. This made no sense to me since I was being brought up by my mom, her sister, and my grandmother. They were very tough and kept me and my siblings safe and secure, plus in the Bible, I remember reading about women prophets. So I began to look at other denominations.

I got married to a young lady who was brought up in a Baptist church so I started going to church with her. I couldn’t believe they allowed music played in their church service. I went from sitting quietly in a church to music being played, and people shouting and praising God.I was in shock. This made my soul catch on fire. I felt God so strong. I went to the alter and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I wanted to keep this feeling forever. It was not long before I felt the call to preach.I so wanted to tell the world that Jesus was alive and well. He was so much more than history stories He was a walking, talking being as real today as He was in the stories.

Then enters the Devil to throw fear into me, smothering the fire that the love and grace of our Heavenly Father so carefully built in me. Telling me I was worthless. That God didn’t want the likes of me representing Him and presenting His Word to the world. I must have imagined all this. People will think you’re silly etc. I never told anybody what I had felt.

Shortly after all this, my wife of seven years left me providing proof for Satan that I was worthless. I left the church for about five years. Then I met my current wife. A true gift from God. We moved to Vernon Florida and started going to Church with my dad and stepmother. This church was an Assembly of God. They had the music, the shouting and they spoke in tongues. You could feel the Lord all over this Church. We became involved in the outreach ministry. We were singing in the church choir, we were very involved. We were in a close walk with the Lord. life was so good.

We had to return to Alabama and ended up with many mouths to feed and my priorities got all messed up.Work and the all mighty dollar took center stage. I was working 60 to 90 hours a week to put food on the table and keep a roof over everyone’s head and God took the back seat. This went on for several years till the Lord decided to get my attention and suddenly I didn’t have enough money to put food on the table. I had no choice but to try to catch enough fish to feed everybody. I got to the lake bright and early sure in my ability to catch fish. I had never gone fishing and caught nothing. But, about 8 hours into this fishing trip and I started to really worry. I started talking to God. Please God you know I have to catch something to feed these babies. Time continued to pass and nothing. People were leaving, boats pulling out of the water and I didn’t have one fish, not even a bite had I gotten. Then this boat pulls up and they start loading it on the trailer. This young man says” hey mister you want these fish?” I was so relieved. I thanked them for the fish then I began thinking God. I had forsaken Him many times but He never left me.

This got me back in church and in short, the order got that fire burning in my soul again. I still felt like I was not worth to preach the word. I didn’t know enough. I had not been faithful enough.. My wife helped me understand that nobody is good enough but I still felt I didn’t know enough. Then I found your website. I hope to gain as much knowledge about the Bible as possible and spread the Good News to as many as humanly possible. I am so blessed to have come across CLI and the opportunity of Bible Study Minister Education. I love the Lord and I want every man, woman, and child to know the peace and unconditional love that knowing Jesus Christ puts in your heart and soul.

Free Ministry Education

Christian Leaders Institute offers free ministry education for any individual desiring to study Christ. Read about a student’s testimony to how she was found to CLI and how Christian Leaders Institute has impacted her life:

My name is Chelsea Roberson and I am 21 years old. I currently live in North Carolina in the United States of America. I am immensely blessed to be able to study God’s word freely and practice my faith in the open. Ministry in this country is relatively easy depending on who you ask. I am beginning to see a shift, however, with the state beginning to turn more towards the world than to Jesus. I am determined to use the free ministry education I receive at Christian Leaders Institute to help reverse this shift.

For the first 14 years of my life, I did not grow up with Christ in my life. I grew up in an abusive home without God. In fact, the only access to information I had about God was that He was horrible and mean if He was real, but He was most likely not. However, after my father went to jail and become very ill, my mother met an incredible man I now call my step-father. He began taking my brother and I to church against our will (of course) and the Lord began a work in my heart. He began to draw me in until I had a spoken word over my life. I was saved that night and gave in to Jesus the only way I knew how. I am still always in the sanctification process, but I am in love with my Savior who I know is good. Ever since that moment, the Holy Spirit has pursued me in ways I never thought myself worthy of.

My dream moving forward would be to become a leader in a Celebrate Recovery near me. I have recently fallen in love with this ministry and what it stands for. It is a safe place for broken Christians. It is what church was always meant to be. It is the hospital for the sinner and saint alike. We are all broken and stained, but the blood of Jesus makes us white as snow. I don’t know what that looks like moving forward but I know that I have never been more passionate about anything in my life. I suppose the word that comes to mind in reference to this dream would be an evangelist. I want everyone to know how loved they are and how much they are desired by our Savior. They were/are worth dying for and they were/are worth pursuing.

I remember the very moment I was called to ministry. Our local pastor asked all ministers in the congregation to raise their hands. Only about 2 hands were raised. Then, he quoted Mark 16:15. The Holy Spirit fell on me. I felt burning from head to toe. That was it. Jesus calls ALL believers to go into all of the world and preach the good news! Why had no one ever told me this before? From that moment on, I have been in full pursuit of what that word ministry means to me in my walk. God hasn’t failed me yet. In fact, this program is an answer to my prayers. This is the next step in my studies and in my walk.

Thank you for what you are doing for us and for providing in ways that I couldn’t provide for myself! This scholarship to me means ministry. It means a dream come true. It means an answered prayer. It means salvation. It means education. It means joy.

Finding the Grace of God

Start free ministry training today! Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) offers free high-quality online ministry training. CLI accepts any individual anywhere in their life to learn about Christianity. Read a student’s testimony below who was a lost son of God and found CLI as a tool to finding the grace of God:

My name is Elvis James Kamau. I live in a city called Nairobi in Kenya. I am 23 years of age and by the grace of God, I am saved. Jesus Christ is my personal savior.

I am saved, but this wasn’t always the case. I was raised by a single mother in a family of three. I have two sisters. I have always known my mom to be a ‘churchwoman’ since I can remember. I am saying this because I didn’t really grasp the concept of Christianity until later. She gave me the basics at a very young age. We used to read the bible and pray every day. So in a sense, I knew God and His word. I even went through all ceremonies involved – baptism, confirmation, etc. However, it was not until I was in high school that I experienced strong spiritual revelations. I came to the realization that this is serious. There is God who desires to save us from the devil and his temptations.

I was mostly in bad company and I came to Christ a couple of times but found myself backsliding several times. I went to three different schools and my grades were poor. In my final year, I decided to just trust God and change. God showed His mercy and I excelled at school. I was even awarded a government sponsorship to pursue a degree in Computer Science. When I came to university, is when I found myself falling off the path to Christ. All that was surrounding me was the temptation of sin, alcohol, fornication, hard drugs etc. By then I had several jobs, but this did not loosen the grip the devil had me in. It was only after a series of events that God humbled me and brought me to a point of brokenness so I could seek Him. I was involved in a drunk driving accident and was almost killed. This changed my whole perspective of life. After this, I was broken and in debt, that I am still paying off. I was still doing drugs. One night, I got wasted, got into a fight, and almost bled to death. At this point, God found me. Unfortunately, it got worse before it started getting better. I started seeking spiritual enlightenment in all the wrong places. I involved myself with very many different doctrines and new age stuff. It is in the process of encountering these deceitful spirits that I found the grace of God. He revealed Himself to me in such a way I couldn’t deny. Thank you, Jesus!

So I got saved and was delivered from all of it. All my addictions stopped and God gave me the wisdom to see the truth amidst all this. In my walk with God,  I desired to know Him more. I did a lot of scripture and God taught me a lot. Being a teenager, I wanted to influence my fellow friends and just explain about Jesus and what He had done for me. This is when God led me to seek ministry training. It was my desire to help others in finding the grace of God. I want to reach my fellow youth and mostly be able to pass the pure gospel of Christ. I don’t know about there, but here its mostly watered down and I just can’t take the half truths. I had no money and was even struggling with finishing my current endeavor. CLI was God’s answer for me. I couldn’t believe it and am so glad I can have quality training all the way from the US and for free.

To all the donors and supporters, may God bless you mightily. I am sure God is like -Well done good and faithful servants. This is such a blessing and a great way to get more understanding of God and our kingdom and how to relate it to our life and share it with our friends, relatives, and even strangers. I pray for your continued support and one day I know I will support it too. I hope to contribute to the creation of revival leaders and spread the gospel to all parts of the world. Thank you, CLI for helping me in finding the grace of God. God bless.

  Trained Christian Leader

Become a trained Christian leader today! Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) offers free high-quality online ministry training. CLI accepts any individual anywhere in their life to learn about Christianity. Read a student’s testimony below who found CLI as a tool to follow his dream of becoming a pastor and serving God:

My name is Faustin Buteera. I currently live in Uganda. My parents came to Uganda escaping the genocide in Rwanda. I am currently running a small business in Mukono district as my official work. I was given the privilege to go back to school and attain my bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics management in the year 2011.

I serve in a local church of a small congregation of about 50 people. In this part of the country I live in, Kayunga road, people are still so much into witchcraft even though they claim to know and believe Christ. At one time, we were attacked by a group of Muslim youths who wanted to remove timber from our church. We are glad the local authority was around to put the young men to sanity.

Growing up as a young man, we always went to the local catholic church at our previous location before we moved here. My mom really wanted me to go to the Catholic seminary school, but I never attained the right grades to get the scholarship. Like many young men here, education is such a huge privilege. I attended the catechism classes which I excelled. But still, I couldn’t join a seminary college. My mom was disappointed, but she really had nothing to do about it. I miraculously managed to go through high school with help of lots of mom’s friends. My dad was that kind of father who was never responsible.

By 16, I had started making wrong decisions, drugs, alcohol but, always made sure my mom had no idea. I pulled it off for 2 years until one evening when I met young Mormon missionaries who were moving in my previous area of residence. I was taught and finally got converted and eventually stopped all my old habits. I really didn’t care so much about the doctrine. I was enjoying the company of young men who strive to live according to the precepts of the Lord. Fast forward a few years. While at work, I met a nice lady who later financed my second year of my college education. This is when I started questioning many things I had learned from the Lord’s church. I started reading my bible and understanding who I am in Christ and what the bible says, about marriage, grace and biblical authority and not adding or reducing on the word and the holy spirit. It was after this deep search for the God of the bible that I started attending Pentecostal scripture unions and later on by the end of my second year I confessed the lord Jesus Christ. And finally got baptized.

My dream is to be a pastor, share the word, and start my own ministry. We have many church leaders here, but the field is ready but the laborers are few. I dream to become a trained christian leader within my community. The Lord delivered me from drugs through people who really never taught biblical doctrine, but nevertheless, he did. I dream to minister through the holy spirit and help the souls I touch. I hope to cultivate a relationship with the Lord and understand Jesus Christ. Many young men and women still struggle with tuition. Eventually, because they can’t study, they end up joining peers that lead them to paths that led to their destruction. My aim is to touch the youths and remind them of the grace of the Lord.

My pastor has been very instrumental in my growth, he has always given me a chance to preach on Thursday, which is the youth Thursday every week. I have been able to inspire and revival in our youth service which has been a strong indicator in my ministry journey. I have also been able to move to different churches courtesy of my pastor’s network.

I have always struggled with tuition; this has made me search for free lectures, papers on the internet until one time the Lord revealed CLI. I had to wait as it was hard to access the internet and a personal computer but now glory to the Lord I can.

My scholarship will help me build my knowledge for the gospel and also be more confident when sharing the word. It will also enable me to be recognized as a trained Christian leader through my certificates and diplomas eventually in ministry.

Please, pray for me so that my ministry dream will come to fruition.

Bi-vocational Leader

Become a bi-vocational leader today. Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) offers free high-quality online ministry training. CLI accepts any individual anywhere in their life to learn about Christianity. Read a student’s testimony below who was a lost son of God and found CLI as a tool to rediscover the pathway to Christ:

You may wonder when you first look at my name “Is he Italian or French?” Well, I’m none of the above… I’m Canadian. Born in a 100% French speaking small town of the Province of Quebec. Back in those days, people from Quebec were referred to as French Canadians. Nowadays, we are known more as “Quebecers” or “Québécois.” My first ancestor “Zacharie Cloutier”, who arrived from France in 1634, was a carpenter. Yes… like our Lord! As for the Italian roots of my first name, in spite of my best efforts, I just can’t find any from both sides of my family. Mom said she just picked it up because she liked it.

I’m not proud to admit that my walk with Jesus has not been a straight line, to say the least. I have been the “lost son” Jesus talks about in Luke 15: 11-32. Only times two…

I accepted Him at the age of 19 in the Spring of 1983 and got married in July of the same year. Then followed an insane 10 years stretch in which I found myself running after the world’s shiny objects. It took a monumental business failure for me to go back to Him when I turned 30. I got baptized a few months later in November 1994. Then guess what? I aimed again for the world! Objects were only bigger and shinier this time around… and I got divorced at the turn of the century.

In my chaotic years, the biggest sin I did, among so many, was to try to “mold” God to my liking. Although I continued to believe in Him and often expressed gratitude for the blessings of my life, the God I worshiped and praised was diminished to a stature that I had designed TO PLEASE ME. So I diluted Jesus. I adapted His gospel to one that better fit my prosperity thinking and the kind of literature I swamped myself in. Shamefully, I became my own Savior…

In the Fall of 2013, the Lord chose a pure stranger to throw me off my horse… After a back treatment, a chiropractor I was seeing for the first time, witnessed to me. His testimony was so pure, loving and candid that it literally rushed me home to my bible! After I repented for my sins, the Lord took me back ONCE more with open arms. Glory to Him! Although it took me too many years, I finally acknowledged Him not only as my Savior but also as the Lord of my life.

I am now married to the woman of my dreams since September 2001. Together we are the proud parents of 3 adults children. Diane has a son from a previous marriage and I have 2 daughters. She accepted Christ in June 2015 and got baptized in December 2016. We still live in Quebec but in recent years, we have been blessed enough to spend about half of our time on the Treasure Coast of South Florida, in the United States. Diane and I are serving in three local ministries in our Florida church and are honored to be hosting a weekly Life Group in our home.

The serving ministries and fellowship have given me ample opportunities to share my story with several brothers and sisters in the faith. What I noticed is that many have revealed to me that they too have had a similar “on and off” walk with the Lord. It has since become clear to me that this was to be my main ministry. My dream is to become a bilingual bi-vocational pastor, in Canada and/or the United States, whose main focus will be to reach out to the sheep that have drifted in the world from their Holy Shepherd. I feel that a CLI scholarship would equip me with the proper tools to do just that and become a successful bi-vocational leader of Christianity.

By His grace, I am now willing to follow any path He will show me to bring Him glory. Please pray that I remain faithful, obedient and active in the furthering of our Father’s kingdom.

Bible Training Program

Bible Training Program – I was born in 1981 in Kentucky to a single mother. She was told that she would not be able to have kids; but, by the grace of God, I was born healthy (even though I was premature).

I knew who my father was and saw him regularly, but he didn’t live with us (being my mother and grandmother). Not having a male influence in the home is one of the many driving forces that is pushing me into ministry.

After graduating high school, I joined the Navy. I served for nine years in various locations. It was the most rewarding time of my life. After I got out, I met my wife Darlene and her daughter Katrina. Taking Katrina in and raising her as mine was, in a sense, my way of being there for her like I wished my dad was there for me. We now have another daughter, Chloe, and a new baby on the way in September.

I currently work as an aide for Special Needs students. I truly had to humble myself to meet their needs, since there’s not a lot they can do on their own. Every day, I pray for healing and strength for them and that I can continue to be a mentor to them. This Bible training program is perfect for me!

My goal is to, ultimately, become a teacher in the Word. I’m letting God determine which type of teacher to be (in a school, in the church, etc.), but being in the school system has really driven me to teach. When I came across this Ministry Training Program online, it was as if God was directing me here. I am excited to continue and cannot wait to see what’s in store.

To God be the Glory!!!

Continuing Education for Pastors

Continuing education for pastors is very important for a number of reasons. Ministry Magazine published an important article called “Why Continuing Education?” by John Osborn that underlined the need for continuing education for pastors in local churches. This article points out how not only do doctors need to have updated knowledge, but pastors do too.

John Osborn wrote,

It’s not only physicians who are caught up in the knowledge explosion. Ministers are too. The minister is constantly called upon to face new conditions and problems demanding fresh knowledge and increased skill. Often he faces an active, aggressive, highly educated laity. They sometimes challenge the preacher more than he challenges them. They want him to update himself. They want increased performance, better preaching, more efficient pastoral care, and greater capability in running church organization. In fact, I firmly believe that the minister is expected to do more things, and do them well, than is any other professional.

The fact is that pastors today face many challenges. These challenges are difficult if the local pastor is not informed about lacking areas.  One of the most popular classes at Christian Leaders Institute is the People Smart in Ministry Class. The People Smart in Ministry course discusses how to be intelligent when dealing with people in life and ministry. This class helps Christian leaders identify common principles for effective communication and how to improve their effectiveness. Hundreds of students have taken this class. This is an excellent example of continuing education for pastors on topics that may not be covered at the typical seminary. Barbara Kalvelage shared why she appreciated the People Smart in Ministry course,

This course was very helpful for me in preparing for possible pitfalls that I may encounter in my ministry. I was especially interested in Clergy-killers…I now understand what one family was able to do to a true man of God “for the good of the Church” and how they accomplished their mission to destroy him because he changed the music from organ to piano.  I hope that I will be able to recognize the danger signs.

Many pastors have not had the advantage of formal seminary training. In many churches and denominations, pastors must be ordained without formal training because the need for ministry in their local area is great. Local denominations often provide alternative ministry training but continuing education for pastors courses would be considered valuable for ongoing ministry effectiveness. Pastor Stan Raibley of The Church Moving Closer to People is one such pastor. He is a recent Certificate Graduate of Christian Leaders Institute. He wrote,

I was apprehensive in taking courses at my age, but I did it anyway. I’ve been pastoring for the past couple of years and though I’ve never had formal training, I was able to get enought credits through my denomination’s courses for ordination. I still felt lacking in proper training. Now that I’ve completed the first certificate, I can’t wait to continue learning. The layout and pace is exactly what I need. If you are serious about leadership, I encourage you to sign on with the Christian Leaders Institute. God bless.

The Ministry Magazine article pointed out that continuing education for pastors is optimal if that education is a systematic process, meaning that,

Education, then, to be not only continuous but strenuous, demands mental sweat. It is a systematic process. It has purpose and an objective. It is not light reading or a casual listening to tape-recorded materials. It is more than accumulated experience. It is the result of consecutive and organized study.

Christian Leaders Institute provides the systematic study in a growing curriculum of ministry education. Continuing education for pastors is free at Christian Leaders Institute. Christian Leaders Institute opens the door for opportunity. If you are a pastor and interested, just sign up and give this a try. If you are a leader in your church, share this opportunity with your pastor.

Lesotho Bible Study

Lesotho Bible study is spreading though trained leaders from Christian Leaders Institute. This ministry training is free and available for Christian Leaders. Lesotho Bible study is critical because Christian leaders and pastors in Lesotho have not had access to high-quality Bible study training. This testimony from Atisang Mokhele at Christian Leaders Institute illustrates the need for Lesotho Bible study training.

Greetings to you all. I live in a country called Lesotho in the town of Maseru. MY counry landlocked by  Africa. It can be pretty tough sharing Christ here simply because most of the people believe that they are Christian even though that may not necessarily be the case. There are no laws in particular that impede sharing the Gospel or being a believer. The landscape is flooded with churches but very little transformation is taking place largely because of the lack of training within the clergy and the many strongholds that Basotho have bound themselves to.

How I came to the saving knowledge of Christ was pretty gradual. Christ pulled me out of darkness, He came to me and called me out. For years I would see Christians with their Bibles in school and I would wonder what awkwardness and total weirdness that was, not knowing that His work in my life had begun. when I was in university as a freshman, I raised my hand at a service held in campus when people were asked to raise their hand in order to receive Christ. My conversion wouldn’t be complete and genuine until I met a missionary, who is now a dear friend, with Africa Inland Mission, who lives and carries out her ministry in the town of Maseru. She is the one who fully explained the Gospel to me in a Lesotho Bible study and I made a decision for Christ following that and have never turned back. That was back in 2007/8.

Lesotho Bible Study Training at CLI

At present, I know for sure I need to be getting ministry training. I had been seeking a way to get training when incredibly at about the same time I came across Christian Leaders Institute which I believe was God’s plan for me. My personal ministry dream is not entirely clear at this point. I am however passionate about evangelism, teaching the Word and making lasting relationships with other believers. I believe these things God has put in my heart and in time it will become clearer what it is God has planned for me and my family. For now I just know I need to get training.

Evangelism as I have already mentioned is a very huge part of what my ministry ambitions are. I wish to see my countrymen come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. In the book of Romans it talks about people knowing only when others tell them about the Gospel. It is my hope that those who will come to know Christ will with the same excitement share the Good news of His Love.

Right now I’m not in active ministry, I am part of a local church and a bible study group. The desire to see people being taught the Word of God in Spirit and In Truth I believe is what launched my quest for ministry Training. It is The Holy Spirit I believe who put it in my heart to not just be a pew warmer but to go out, fulfill His mission and edify the Body through all that He has put in me. For the longest time in my faith walk, I was not getting solid bible teaching so when I met Jo Fernandez, my ministry mentor and my bible study facilitator (my missionary friend), I received solid biblical teaching and from then on I knew I wanted my countrymen to be at the receiving end of sound teaching from the Word of God.

The key challenge I believe the Church face here is the thick, tough wall of ancestral worship that veils our spiritual eyes as Basotho. Put that together with the many churches that colour the landscape, you have a strongly intertwined sycretism of a Biblical Worldview with an animistic African worldview that is hard to penetrate and untangle. It took many years for me to personally come out of it. The same applies for most Basotho. Very few see that its even something that exists. Its okay for a person to go to church on Sunday and slaughter a white chicken tomorrow to remove some bad omen or curse they were placed under for one reason or another. This gives many a pastor and missionary much headache.

After finding out about CLI, I immediately let my local church pastor know that I was considering taking up the scholarship. He was more than okay with the idea. I also talked with him about letting other church folk know so that if there are any who want to get the training they could. The church fully supports this move. At least I know that the pastor knows, I don’t know if the rest of the board knows.

What I know for sure is that my family fully supports me and the path that I have taken concerning ministry. By family I mean my wife. Her consent is all that matters. As long as I have time for the family, and they don’t feel neglected, I’m happy. Her support means the world to me. I’m grateful that she is behind me all the way. As for my 8 month old son, well, I’m sure he’ll understand. I do hope to minister together with my wife, in whatever way that may look like.

It really is a wonderful thing that God is doing through CLI. Thousands upon thousands will benefit from free ministry training saving many thousands in costs. I know for sure I could never afford to go seminary from my own pocket. I was always looking for a window of opportunity The Lord would open up for me. I believe CLI is that window. Quiet simply put, without CLI, i would probably never realize my ministry dream. So it [CLI] has helped me at least believe that I will live to see my ministry dreams and goals come to fruition.

My ministry calling is gradually unfolding. I don’t want to force The hand of God, that is both impossible,  but I would like to see more clearly what it is He wants for me at this point in my life. It would be wonderful to get some prayer support here. Also for more and more Basotho to desire to get training ministry training as we continue spreading the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
