Missionary Call

Missionary Call

I am Arcturus Sarabia and I have a missionary call on my life. I am originally from the Philippines. I currently live in Taoyuan, Taiwan. I was raised in a Christian family and attended Sunday school, youth camps, and YWAM (Youth With A Mission) camps. I am a civil engineer by profession, graduated in 2002. My life changed in and after university. I began to walk away from God, had been in a wrong relationship, and was addicted to alcohol and pornography. But God changed my life! In 2005, I was at my lowest and God spoke to me clearly. I decided to join YWAM’s Discipleship Training School. Then everything–my life and plans–changed. I became a YWAM full-time missionary in the Philippines for almost 10 years. I met a Taiwanese girl in Cambodia serving in YWAM and she became my wife. Now my wife and I are both missionaries of Youth With A Mission here in Taiwan.

Our missionary call is to see the Great Commission fulfilled in the lives of the people of Taiwan. It is also to see all people groups love and worship the one true God Jesus Christ; to see Christians rise up, take their authority, and go make disciples. Our heart is to see indigenous tribes of Taiwan take pride in their cultural heritage and use it in fulfilling the Great Commission. We also have a heart for the lost in Indochina Cambodia, where we are also praying to go in the future. Mission work is our life, and love for Jesus is what prompts us to pursue ministry. Jesus is worthy: worthy of our time, our lives and our everything.

Having this scholarship with Christian Leaders Institute is really important to me in my missionary call. I cannot afford a tuition fee, which is far beyond our monthly support. I also don’t have the money or the time to go to a physical school, which would mean dropping all the ministries we do here in Taiwan. I looked online for online schools that offer what you offer, but I found none. Pray that I can endure the hardship of studying faithfully and doing our ministry here at the same time.

Semper Reformanda

Semper Reformanda

The Latin “Semper Reformanda” means “Always Reforming”. It’s my personal motto, and that of the ministry God has put me in. In everything I do, I pursue to always be reforming more and more to live in accordance with God’s commands.

I was born in Hollywood, Florida (USA) in 1973. My dad is from Cuba, and my mom from the North Eastern United States. I grew up normal…whatever normal is. Went to public school, and then joined the United States Army. I served in Berlin, Germany, and with the 101st Airborne Division. Since my youth, I was involved in typical American Evangelical society. Not much conviction…not a clear godly walk. It wasn’t until years later when I finally started to “fear” the Lord. It became more clear to me that He is the complete sovereign of the entire universe! He is a real king with a real kingdom. My loose theology promoted loose living, and God let me know how loose in very quick order. He convicted me, and I fell at His feet for mercy and grace, and He freely gave it. The scary thing is this; I pastored while being unrepentant for years.

Thankfully, God has given me a second chance when I deserved nothing but His complete wrath. This scholarship from Christian Leaders Institute will allow me to gain the quality education that I always wanted to get. God has called me, and I am humbled by the generosity of CLI and those who have given to allow me to study here.

The Ministry God has given me is the Protestant Reformation Society. This ministry is to bring believers together to discuss the Reformation, it’s main characters, the era, and Protestant Theology; not for the purpose of glorifying men, but to encourage a life of repentance; of continuing the Reformation in individual hearts, and in local churches. As Martin Luther said, “We are beggars.” We can never forget that.

Please pray that PRS continues faithfully in its mission. Many people mistakenly think that ministry in the USA is easy. The US is becoming more and more hostile towards authentic Christianity. Society hates us because it loves the darkness. Pray that we always see the opportunities that God places before us to share light!

God is so incredibly good. He is so holy. And He loves us, His children. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Chaplain Ministry

Chaplain Ministry

I am Steve Russell from the United States living in Florida and I have a call to chaplain ministry. I found Jesus as I was volunteering at a Vacation Bible School (VBS), that led me to be baptized in the Gulf of Mexico.

My ministry dream is to be a chaplain in an ALF, nursing home, or the like. A place where I can share the Word and comfort people and where some will have a chance to find Jesus and be saved before passing on. Now I am here at Christian Leaders Institute to learn more about the sharing of God’s Word with more people in chaplain ministry. The Connections class at CLI has given me many tools already on strengthening my relationship with God, studying His Word, and sharing His Word.

While I was in VBS that year, I was freaking out about having to lead all these kids hollering around me, arguing and so on. I told my wife that my first year helping could be my last. On the last night, a note was left on my clipboard by one of the kids that stated how much he liked VBS and he thanked me and told me that he loves me. Jesus used this boy to reach in and touch me! I have worked with VBS three more times since then.

During a small group outing, we went to a nursing home and gave out cards and candy to the residents and talked and prayed with them. It was during this visit that I found my calling. Now I am working on getting approved to do this on a regular basis.

My church is going through a pastor change right now, so I am not certain about mentoring with the new pastor. But there are other pastors in the area that I have been using for a sounding board and mentoring.

CLI is aiding me in my ministry training for my chaplain ministry as well as for church training. Prayers for a clear mind and focus on completing the courses are needed for this ministry training.
