Hello, my name is Barry Lewis, and I am taking classes to study the Bible online for free at CLI (Learn more about Studying the Bible, Click Here). I live in Edmonton, Alberta, but am originally from the Island of Bermuda. I was called into ministry in the mid-90s. After walking with God for a little while, my faith was tested. I failed miserably! For over twenty plus years, I was in the world doing many things not pleasing to God. It is only by the grace of God that I am alive today, and I am grateful.
It was only through God’s unmerited favor on my life that I was able to move here to Canada after many years in Bermuda. I was traveling down the broad path to destruction and ultimate death. However, God showed up on the eleventh hour through a dream, and He saved me again.
Called to Preach the Gospel
I had found out what my calling was in 2015, and since then, I have been working on my walk with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Can I say it’s been easy? No! However, it is worth the effort and struggle!
Since I left the kingdom of darkness, the one who runs it tries to throw stumbling blocks in front of me. But, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I have made it my mission to walk with God daily. Furthermore, I will stand on the Word of God and His promises. As it says in Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.” With Christ, those stumbling blocks become stepping stones on my faith journey. All for God’s glory!
Today, I am an assistant Pastor and continuously seek a closer walk with God. My spiritual dream is to preach the Word of God all over the world with the Holy Spirit’s help. I would love to do missionary work in the far reaches of the world and help the less fortunate. From Military Spouse to Christian Leader
Hi! My name is Katie, and I am receiving a free college-level education online at CLI. I am currently located in Japan. I grew up in the South in a Christian home. Some of my fondest memories are of summer camps, potlucks on the fifth Sundays of certain months, and the loving church family. That church family surrounded and supported me as I grew in my walk with the Lord.
I have spent the last 16 years following my husband around the world for his military career. Now that he is nearing retirement, we are preparing for our next step. It is in ministry. We hope to use his skills as a pilot to help missionaries serving in remote locations. I plan to continue to homeschool our three children. Furthermore, I also want to help the missionary community and my husband wherever and however I am needed.

The mission organization my husband hopes to partner with requires some college-level education for both of us. We all know Uncle Sam doesn’t pay very well, and it’s incredibly challenging for a military spouse to hold a job when they move every few years. We were struggling with how we were going to pay for college credits for both of us when we learned about CLI. What an answer to prayer!
I am looking forward to challenging myself with college. I thought I was done with formal college-level education when I earned my bachelor’s degree many, many years ago! My name is Anthony Burgos, and I am called to minister training at the Christian Leaders Institute. Currently, I reside in one of the five boroughs of New York City called the Bronx. In 2014 due to unforeseen circumstances, I became homeless for about a year. During that time, I suffered like never before. I was hungry, confused, and realized that my faith in God had diminished. I wanted to end it all.
One day while thinking of a way to end my suffering, I sat under a tree in the pouring rain, waiting to re-enter the shelter for the night. I prayed urgently, letting God know how I felt, crying tears that would be hidden due to the rain. But God knew because He cares about us and our feelings. Realizing this, I stood with rain falling on me. I reached my hands up to God and asked him to give me a reason to live. I was praying for hope, and he heard me.
A few days later, I received a call on my state-provided cell phone. It was one of my cousins who had heard of my situation. She told me that somehow she knew something was wrong. We immediately started making plans to get me home to New York. I had been saved. That is why I know my life is to serve God and help others in the same situation that I was in. God wants me to let them know that they are not alone. God is there for them, and that from that moment, I would be there for them too.
Called to Minister Training at CLI
I became Ordained in September of 2020 from an online ministry that made it so easy that I knew it wasn’t legit. So, again I reached out to God to show me the right path to him. One day while searching for ministry training online, God led me to the Christian Leaders Institute website. I was skeptical at first because the courses were free. However, after taking the first class and listening to Pastor Henry Reyenga speak, I knew that God had brought me to the right place. He brought me home to him.
So far, all the readings and videos seem to be describing me and speaking to me. Especially when it comes to the trials and tribulations that one goes through as they journey to God.
