Understanding Officiant Requirements in Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, legally authorized wedding officiants include ordained or licensed ministers of any religious denomination and deacons of the Roman Catholic Church. Provided that you’re ordained or licensed by a recognized religious organization, you can perform marriage ceremonies.

Steps to Become a Wedding Officiant in Rhode Island

Here are the steps to become a wedding officiant in Rhode Island:

Ordination: Obtain ordination or recognition as a leader in your religious organization. This is often accomplished through Christian Leaders Institute training and Christian Leaders Alliance ordination licensing.

Planning the Ceremony: Collaborate with the couple to plan the ceremony, incorporating religious content, vows, and other elements as needed.

Conducting the Wedding: Officiate the wedding ceremony, adhering to any specific requirements outlined by the couple and your religious organization.

Completing the Marriage License: Following the ceremony, complete the marriage license, detailing your title, date and location of the ceremony, and address. The couple usually obtains the license from the county clerk prior to the wedding.

Returning the License: The completed license should be returned to the county clerk’s office within a designated period post-ceremony. Christian Training with Christian Leaders Institute

CLI offers an extensive training program that aligns with Rhode Island’s requirements for wedding officiants. They deliver comprehensive ministry education and practical training, providing a more thorough and useful education than instant ordination sites. The course covers wedding ceremonies, premarital counseling, and delivering wedding sermons professionally, and takes approximately 10 hours to complete.

Flexible Timeline for Ordination

This program is designed to accommodate your schedule, making it ideal for those who occasionally officiate weddings for loved ones. The licensing process requires less than ten hours of study, with only a single recommendation. However, if you’re seeking higher ordination levels, you’ll need to engage more deeply with studies and secure additional recommendations.

Credibility through Christian Leaders Alliance

Your ordination gains validation and credibility through your membership with the Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA). This association demonstrates your commitment to thorough training and endorsement from your local Christian community, lending authenticity to your ordination.

Get Ordained in Rhode Island – A Testimony

My name is Ben McInnis. I am a lifelong resident of the State of Rhode Island on the east coast of the United States. I am a remarried father of four and a Public Safety Officer at a local university.

I believe I am called to be a Christian leader despite my past. For most of my life, I studied the occult, comparative religions and philosophies, and practiced magic. My family was nominally Christian and we did not attend church very often. As a child, I was picked on by my peers and sought anything that would give me a sense of power.

From the age of 11 until I had my first child at 26, I explored every spiritual path I could find. Christianity did not appeal to me much; it had too many rules that prevented me from indulging my desires.

However, the birth of my daughter and the witness of several co-workers at the time brought about a change. I received Jesus in 1999. Soon after that, I felt called to ministry, but my own fear and impatience overwhelmed me.

I battled opposition from my then-wife and did not have the courage to uphold my faith. Four years after receiving salvation, I slipped back into my old ways. I turned away from God.

Recently, I received a wake-up call from God. My youngest child is transgender, and I was having difficulty accepting them for who they are. This, coupled with a quarrel between my ex-wife and my current wife, left me at the lowest point I have ever been in my life.

I felt entirely lost and alone. As I lay mourning the fact that my child did not feel safe in my home, something extraordinary happened. I heard Jesus calling to me in my heart.

I was stunned. After so many years of turning away from Him, I felt His love envelop me and lift me out of my despair. I realized that while I had tried to run from Him, He had never abandoned me. I rededicated my life to Jesus.

This experience humbled me more than anything else in my life. God’s forgiveness and mercy is all-encompassing. His love knows no bounds, even for someone like me.

My spiritual dream is to serve Him. I sense His gentle push towards a home-based ministry with my wife, who had been a youth pastor and worship leader for a church in Texas before we got together. This dream is still in its early stages, and I have faith that God will guide it and me beyond anything I can envision.

God becomes more real to me each day. His Word reveals Him to me the more I read it. When I pray, I feel His guidance. The fear I felt for so long has been replaced by peace. I still grapple with it sometimes, but I am assured that God will never let me down.

I plan to use the training I receive through the Christian Leaders Institute to prepare myself to guide others. I enjoy teaching and mentoring as much as I enjoy learning. I am confident that God will use this for His glory.

The fact that CLI offers free education is truly a gift from God. My wife and I are gradually rebuilding our financial stability. Three of my children still live at home and while we have two incomes in our household, it is not enough to support a formal seminary education for me. My wife already holds advanced degrees, but I had to postpone my education to support my family. CLI allows me to receive a quality education without adding financial stress to my family.

I pray God blesses all who read this. May the love He has given me overflow to you abundantly, in Jesus’s Name!
