Get Ordained in Maine – A Testimony

My name is Pam Dunning. I live in the state of Maine in the United States. Being a Navy brat and having lived all over both the east and west coasts, I arrived in Maine via my father’s retirement from the Navy. I am number five of nine children, so the middle child? Having now lived here for 55 years, while still not a “Mainer,” my roots are deep, and it is my home. I was widowed by my beloved husband after 28 years of marriage. I have been fortunate to have found a new partner in life 18 years ago. I have one son who is now in his mid-forties, two adult step-children, and six grandchildren.

Professionally, I am a Library Director, a yoga teacher, and I assist my partner in his construction business. Yes, I like to build things. Tools are fun! In my spare time, I enjoy kayaking, hiking, walking, yoga, mowing the lawn, sketching, landscape painting in water and acrylics, and fussing over my 14-year-old chihuahua who does most of these activities with me.

I found CLI when searching for Bible classes. I felt a driving need to become more informed about the Bible and to bridge the gap between the people of Christian history and the times in which they lived. I want to be able to more fully relate to the teachings of this miraculous work. The curriculum at CLI is so extensive that I am sure this is where I will get the education my soul is seeking.

I gave myself to Christ at the age of 12. I was at church and just knew that He was real and that I was His. At age 19, with a brand new son, I worried about raising him and being present in his life until he could take care of himself. I am sure that most mothers have this anxiety. I prayed to God that He help me raise my son and allow me to be present for this young life. I asked that God be with me through the journey. Something miraculous happened. My body flushed with warmth. I felt an indescribable sensation of love and protection, and I knew that God had touched me. It still brings tears to my eyes as I recall that moment.

I had a difficult start in life. My father was often deployed out of the country for several months at a time. My mother became an alcoholic and was abusive. No details. We will leave it at that. God has raised me up from a disturbed childhood and brought me through some difficult moments in my adulthood. He has always stood by me and given me the strength to carry on through life.

I will end here with this: “Thank you, God, for creating me, for calling me by name, and for saving me from the depths. I am worthy only through your Great Sacrifice and Grace. Please help me learn more about Your Word and bring me ever closer to you, that I may share this with my family and friends. Amen.”
