My name is Chad Macy and I live in the United States of America. Thankfully, I live in a country that offers religious freedom and in a state that is one of the most conservative in the nation. I often marvel at those who minister in countries that don’t have religious freedom. The commitment and sacrifice of those ministers are inspiring!
Growing up, I moved almost every two years. My home life was a mess and my parents did not have a relationship with Christ. The only times I would attend churches were major holidays or some camp that gave away free food and games. However, during my senior year of high school, I was asked to sing in a Christian a capella quartet. Although I wasn’t a Christian, I loved the music. One night, while traveling to churches and singing our songs, I actually listened to the words for the first time. It was then that God revealed to me that I was lost and was in need of a Savior. I committed my life to Christ that evening and have been in ministry for the last 27 years.
My wife and I recently started a young adult ministry at our church named Coffee House. Our “ministry dream” is also our mission statement: To reach people for Christ and help believers grow to be more like Him. Throughout the last year of leading this ministry, we have witnessed many lives impacted. We were shocked to see how much hurt and confusion exist in the 18-28-year-old age groups.
I am thankful that my wife and daughter are serving beside me in ministry. My wife leads a women’s Bible study while my daughter leads worship. Their love and support have been a Godsend! They have also made financial sacrifices while we are funding the ministry ourselves. This financial dynamic is why I was so excited to receive the CLI scholarship. I would not be able to fund the ministry AND pay for classes too.
This CLI class has helped to reinforce the calling God placed on my life and the need for family devotionals. I am much better about my personal devotional time than I am in leading my family. When my children were young, family devotions were a daily routine. As they have grown to young adults, I haven’t been fighting for their time like I used to. That ends tonight!
I am already considered the “Pastor” of the ministry, but I had a desire to receive formal training and certification. My weekly sermons revolve around specific scripture or themes supplemented by scripture. In everything we do, God’s Word is in the center of it all.
Although our church and community have been very supportive of our ministry, we are not without challenges. We were warned that this age group was unreliable and uncommitted as a generation. With few exceptions, this has proven to be true. Our membership list is four times the size of our actual attendance.
I would appreciate prayer for our ministry. We are hopeful that the word will spread and lives will be impacted for the Kingdom!
