Get Ordained in New Jersey – A Testimony!

Hi, my name is Marvella Scott, and I live in the United States. I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey.

I am grateful to live in a country that declares the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution as the foundation for the democratic government of the United States. The following text is a transcription of the Stone Engraving parchment Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that their Creator endows them with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

My conflict story is not one of societal offenses but more of Godly offenses. For many years, I harbored bitterness, pain, anger, and disappointment in my heart. I didn’t repent for any of it because I thought I was right. Someone that I loved had done wrong towards me. I felt that person was wrong, and I was a victim.

My story starts with issues in my family, mainly with my siblings. My parents, grandmother, and three siblings raised me in a loving home. My parents taught us to love one another; however, my oldest sister and I had a very tumultuous relationship. Throughout our childhood, I felt she didn’t love or like me. My oldest sister seemed to have something against me. We never communicated, and at times when we tried to, the conversation would result in us arguing, shouting at each other with undesirable and hurtful words.

As a result, I stopped speaking to her when we became adults. I made myself believe that I stopped speaking to her for both of us, but later I realized I did what I thought was best for me. I didn’t want to argue with her anymore. I wanted to receive and show love towards her. I wanted love between us but knew if we spoke, both of us would exhibit tumultuous behavior. I believed that I could live a healthy and abundant life without her in it.

One day, I was reading my Bible, and the Spirit led me to look up every scripture that I could find concerning love. After studying these scriptures, I was convicted and saw the error in my ways.

I realized that I wasn’t a victim but I was a willing participant in this conflict, which made my actions wrong. I continued reading the Bible, and I found myself reading Matthew 7:4, “How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?” That scripture penetrated my heart, and I felt really bad. At that very moment, I repented unto God. I asked God for forgiveness, and then I had a burning desire to talk to my sister. I wanted to apologize and ask for forgiveness. I wasn’t sure how to approach her, so I thought that maybe a letter would be the best approach. I continued praying and asking God to reveal to me the right time to approach her. I awoke the next morning, and I knew that it would be a good day to call her. I realized that any day would be a good day to accept responsibility and apologize for my rude behavior. That same evening, a calmness that I hadn’t experienced came over me. I picked up the phone, dialed her number, and she answered. Now, I knew God was working in the midst of this situation because I have called her on several occasions, but she never answered or called me back. This time was different, and as soon as she said hello, the apology flew out of my mouth. I apologized for being disrespectful, and I asked her to please forgive me.

During this time, we were both active participants in ministry, and we understood that this behavior wasn’t pleasing unto God. If we couldn’t get along with one another, then how could we obtain right standing in a relationship with God? The Lord would never be pleased with anything that we offered unto Him. That day, my sister apologized, we laughed, and talked about the goodness of God. This was our first step towards reconciliation. That evening, we both ended our conversation with, “I love you,” and it was heartfelt.

That day was the beginning of a new relationship. A couple of years later, I spoke about this situation in a public speaking class using the topic, “Dancing to the Same Tune”. I realized jealousy was the culprit of the tension between us. Jealousy almost destroyed us. When we were younger, we used to compete in dance competitions, and most of the time, I would win. I never considered how that might have made her feel.

That day, I closed my speech with these words, “I am grateful to God that the jealousy and strife are behind my sister and me. I am thankful to Him that we are living in peace and harmony, and there is no room for jealousy because today we ‘Dance to the Same Tune.’ We dance together in honor and praise unto the Lord. We have the same desires and goals in mind, and that is to please our Lord and Savior. We serve, bless, and worship the Lord when we dance, and we continue to dance, dance, and dance, enjoying and praising God. He brought us together, and now we are thrilled and forever grateful to dance to the same tune.”

To God be the glory for what He is doing in our lives.

C.S. Lewis – According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere flea bites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind…… it is Pride which has been the chief cause of misery in every nation and every family since the world began.1
