Understanding Kentucky’s Requirements:
To officiate weddings in the Bluegrass State, you need to align with the state’s specific laws and regulations. As per Kentucky Revised Statutes, Chapter 402.050, wedding officiants should be ordained ministers of any religious sect. This program aligns with these guidelines, ensuring your capacity to lead weddings amidst Kentucky’s charming landscapes and rich heritage.
Specific Requirements for Wedding Officiants in Kentucky:
- Ordination or Authorization: Kentucky wedding officiants must be ordained or authorized by a recognized religious organization to perform marriage ceremonies.
- Documentation: Officiants must provide documentation or proof of their ordination or authorization to the county clerk’s office where the wedding will occur before the marriage ceremony.
- Legal Age: Officiants must be at least 18 years old.
- Residency: There is no specific residency requirement for wedding officiants in Kentucky. They can be residents of any state or country.
- Registration: Some counties in Kentucky may require wedding officiants to register with the county clerk’s office before performing marriages within their jurisdiction. It’s essential to check with the specific county where the wedding will occur for any additional requirements.

Get Ordained in Kentucky – A Testimony
Hello, I am Karen Hammond from Kentucky, United States of America. I have been blessed to have been born and raised in a Christian home. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was 7 years old. I have lived for Jesus my entire life, and thank God for the holiness heritage I was brought up in, which emphasized godly living. As a result of my heritage, I have no regrets or ‘baggage’ from rebellious behavior for which I praise God!
I attended a Christian college, majoring in Sociology, with the intent of being a professional counselor; however, things happened in my life that changed my direction. In light of those happenings, I got my Master’s Degree in Corporate Communication and worked in corporate America for over 30 years. I had always felt I was to be a counselor, so while I went back to the university in my 40’s and got my second Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, and for the past 10 years have done what I always felt called to do.
My personal testimony, which has been utilized in ministry much more than I could have anticipated, includes a 22-year time period when I was in an abusive/unfaithful marriage. We had two children whom I later learned had also been abused. I did not believe in divorce so stayed in the marriage until he chose to divorce me. I was a broken individual. I didn’t see how my faithfulness could be thrown in my face, but God in His mercy brought incredible healing into my life.
During this time of healing is when I returned to get my degree in Counseling and became licensed. I had lived in the ‘perfect world’ until my marriage and divorce, and had no idea the types of things individuals had to go through. During my spiritual and emotional healing, God promised me that He would restore everything the locust had eaten in my life (Joel 2:25)! And He Has Done That! He opened doors of ministry for me and has poured out the storehouses of heaven upon me. He has accomplished exceedingly abundantly more than I could ask or think in my life (Ephesians 3:20)! I praise Him for all He has done in my life and how He has proven that “everything works together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Eight years after my divorce, God brought me the most awesome godly husband. God has led us into incredibly awesome ministry opportunities. We have done overseas mission work in India, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and have mission work scheduled for Peru and Brazil in 2023. We have been blessed to see thousands accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and have seen hundreds of miraculous healings in Jesus’ name. Additionally, God has opened up a deliverance ministry, where we have seen hundreds of people delivered from evil spirits in Jesus’ name. God has grown our ministry, which started with 1 person, to several states and thousands of individuals being touched by Jesus through our obedience. Additionally, we teach Bible studies in our home and our local church.
A therapy client of mine told me she was studying through Christian Leaders Institute, and I decided to check into it. When I investigated Christian Leaders Institute and learned I could become ordained, and that it would be a legitimate ordination, which required Christian education, I decided to pursue my ordination. This seemed to be God-directed, as it had been recommended to me that in light of how God was blessing and expanding our ministry, it might be wise for me to be ordained, my husband was ordained years ago.
So here I am at Christian Leaders Institute, pursuing ordination, and moving forward in the things of God with my awesome husband. We have 4 grown children, and 6 grandchildren who live all over the United States.
God bless!
