  • Knows when to refer. A faithful Soul Coach recognizes when someone needs professional counseling, medical care, legal assistance, crisis support, pastoral care, or another appropriate resource.
  • Does not exceed the role. Soul Coaches serve within clear biblical and ethical boundaries and do not take on responsibilities beyond the Soul Coach role.

Core Soul Coaching Themes

Throughout the course, students explore several core Soul Coaching themes that provide a practical framework for encouraging spiritual growth through Christ-centered conversations, prayer, biblical wisdom, and healthy ministry boundaries.

Soul Discernment

Students learn how to help others reflect on their lives before God. This includes understanding the role of the Soul Coach, the guardrails of Soul Coaching, and the 15-Aspect Soul Discernment Model.

The course helps students notice that a personโ€™s life is not one-dimensional. Spiritual growth may involve faith, relationships, emotions, habits, responsibilities, communication, stewardship, choices, calling, and more.

Soul Growth Plan

A Soul Growth Plan is a practical, user-owned guide that helps individuals identify biblical next steps for spiritual growth. Rather than telling someone what to do, Soul Coaches help them prayerfully develop goals they choose to pursue before God.

Every Soul Growth Plan is unique because each person’s walk with Christ is unique.

Soul Growth Support

Students also learn to encourage spiritual growth through Christian Growth courses, compassionate listening, wise questions, prayerful encouragement, and a user-owned Soul Growth Plan.

The goal is to help another person take responsibility before God and respond to the Holy Spirit’s work with faithful next steps. Soul Coaches encourage growth without taking ownership of another person’s spiritual journey.

Soul Coaching Is Permission-Based

Permission-based Soul Coaching respects each person’s responsibility before God. Soul Coaches ask permission before offering guidance, listen carefully, encourage thoughtful reflection, and support spiritual growth with humility and care.

This approach may include:

  • Listening with care
  • Asking wise questions
  • Offering prayer by permission
  • Encouraging reflection before God
  • Helping someone engage a Christian Growth course
  • Supporting faithful next steps
  • Encouraging accountability
  • Recognizing when referral is needed

This approach protects the person being helped and helps the Soul Coach serve with wisdom and humility.

Growing as a Living Soul Before God

Soul Coaching begins with understanding that every person is a living soul created in God’s image and invited into renewal through Jesus Christ. Spiritual growth is not simply about gaining knowledge. It is about becoming more like Christ through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

Throughout the Soul Coaching Skills course, students learn to view each person with biblical dignity, compassion, and hope. Rather than focusing only on problems, Soul Coaches encourage people to reflect on their relationship with God, recognize opportunities for growth, and take faithful next steps rooted in Scripture.

This biblical perspective shapes every Soul Coaching conversation. It reminds students that lasting transformation belongs to God while Soul Coaches faithfully encourage others through prayer, listening, biblical wisdom, and Christ-centered support.

The Importance of Permission-Based Soul Coaching

One of the defining characteristics of Soul Coaching is its commitment to permission-based ministry. Rather than assuming authority over another person’s life, Soul Coaches learn to respect personal responsibility before God by asking permission, listening carefully, and encouraging thoughtful spiritual reflection.

Permission-based Soul Coaching helps build trust while creating healthy ministry relationships. Students learn how to offer biblical encouragement, prayer, Christian Growth resources, and faithful next-step support without pressuring or controlling another person’s decisions.

This approach allows Soul Coaches to serve with humility, wisdom, and healthy boundaries while encouraging spiritual growth in a Christ-centered way.

Encouraging Spiritual Growth Through Biblical Wisdom

Soul Coaching is built upon biblical wisdom rather than personal opinion. Students learn to encourage others through Scripture, thoughtful questions, prayerful conversations, and practical Christian Growth resources that support lifelong spiritual maturity.

Throughout the course, students discover how listening well often creates greater opportunities for ministry than simply offering immediate advice. By encouraging reflection, discernment, and personal responsibility before God, Soul Coaches help others develop confidence in following Christ through every season of life.

Whether serving in churches, Soul Centers, mentoring relationships, families, or small groups, these principles provide practical tools for encouraging healthy Christian growth.

Healthy Boundaries Build Healthy Ministry

Healthy ministry begins with understanding healthy boundaries. Soul Coaching teaches students to recognize both the opportunities and the limits of their ministry role. Rather than attempting to become counselors, therapists, or problem-solvers, Soul Coaches learn to encourage spiritual growth while recognizing when referral or additional support is appropriate.

Maintaining clear role boundaries protects both the person receiving encouragement and the Soul Coach. By serving with humility, biblical character, referral awareness, and respect for each person’s responsibility before God, students develop ministry habits that promote trust, wisdom, and long-term effectiveness.

These healthy boundaries help Soul Coaches serve faithfully while keeping Christ at the center of every conversation.

Continue Your Christian Leaders Journey

Completing Soul Coaching Skills can become the beginning of a broader ministry journey through Christian Leaders Institute.
