My Testimony: Beginnings
I lived in China for ten years before coming to Canada. China is not a nation that fears God, in fact, it actively pushes against God, limiting its citizens from worshipping Jesus. My parents found Christ when I was seven years old, and we began going to an underground Church as a family. It was not as exciting as you think. When we were there, our church was largely unrestricted, I thank the Lord for that.
Though my parents were devoted believers, I did not understand the Christian faith. I grew up on documentaries about nature, dinosaurs, and evolution, I understood God to be something mysterious, like Santa Clause. My parents made sure to bring me up in the way of the Lord. They read me Bible stories, sent me to Sunday school, and encouraged me to read the Bible on my own, which I did. I gained a belief in God.
The Journey Continued
In those days, China still had its “one-child policy.” My parents, however, decided to have another baby against the wishes of the government. Why? Because God gave them peace as well as the knowledge that ALL human beings are precious and made in the image of God. It was a stressful experience. We had to go to Hong Kong to have my sister. Even after her birth, population control would knock on our door once every so often. Because of this, my parents decided to move to a country with more freedom. So, we came to Canada in 2011.
I was 11 years old when we came to Canada, and my parents put me in public school. A terrible mistake that God used for good. In school, I was desperate to make friends. Sadly, I mixed in with the wrong crowd. I won’t burden you with the details. However, the things I did and talked about were vile and totally against the ways of the Lord. That line of behavior continued into high school (a Christian school). On the surface, I was a good kid, but in my heart, nothing but darkness dwelled.
A few years later, I was given a Christian book to read. In it, I found tremendous wisdom. It prompted me to begin reading the Bible more seriously and praying. Then came the turning point.
The Turning Point
One day in grade ten, my friends and I were chatting about vile things again. Our language was just terrible. All of a sudden, my best friend said this: “Guys, you know God is watching us, right?”
That day, I believe the Holy Spirit convicted all of us of our sins. The fear of the Lord was within me. I understood that my actions have consequences and that, one day, I will need to give an account of my life before God. I knew immediately that I needed to clean up my act. So, we did. From that day on, we held each other accountable for following the Lord. It was a huge turning point in my life.
From that day on, the Lord continued giving me growth opportunities. I studied the scriptures, prayed, and spoke at church in various small events. The spiritual growth in that period was tremendous! In my recollection, I never had a “born again” experience. All I know is that I am indeed born again, and the Lord Jesus has saved me.
Spiritual Dream Led to Ministry Training and Credentials
As time went on, I encountered many difficulties. The Lord only used those to humble and grow me. I began more ministry ventures such as leading the Kids Club, Youth Group, preaching, camp ministry, online ministry, and Bible studies. Currently, my dream is to 1. Become a preacher. I have the gift of teaching and preaching. So I’d like to use that to the fullest and edify the Body of Christ. 2. I’d like to publish my own Christian-themed graphic novel/comic. It is why I am currently studying Sequential Arts at SCAD.
Art school isn’t cheap, but I also had a great desire to get ministry training and credentials. Christian Leaders Institute was a perfect option for me. I can study at my own pace, and the cost is very manageable (because it’s free, haha). I go to a small assembly, so I am not knowledgeable when it comes to the academic side of Christian ministry. So learning at CLI will be a great experience for me. At CLI, I can gain ministry training and some credentials which will be helpful for me in the future.
I look forward to what the Lord has in store. I am very thankful for CLI! You all are doing a good work!

Recognizing the Goodness of God
I have a dog and a cat and I live in the beautiful North Carolina mountains. Currently, I work in the public education system after many years of working in the non-profit world where most of my time was spent as a mediator conducting victim-offender mediations. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice a few years ago at UNC-Pembroke. My older brother is a pastor, and he recently told me about Christian Leaders Institute (Learn more about studying the Bible online, Click Here). Intrigued, I am now here pursuing this awesome biblical education opportunity. I am so grateful I can participate in it. Next, I will study the Life Coaching program, which I am also very excited about.
Learning What Matters
The youngest of five children, I grew up in a strong Christian family. I learned about Jesus Christ at an early age in the Baptist church. The church taught me how important it was to avoid hell’s fire and brimstone. I asked Jesus into my heart at age 9. However, it took many years to realize that salvation is not the finish line. It is the starting point. I first heard that in my pastor’s message at a non-denominational church that I still attend more than a decade later.
At times in my life, I made poor decisions or took a different path than what God intended for me. As experience usually teaches us, that only led to regrets. I can also confidently say that I have never regretted keeping God first. I believe that when we put Him first, everything else will fall into place. Still, I am learning how important our Christian walk is and am passionate that others also catch that there is more to being a Christian than escaping hell. It is a walk of love motivated by Jesus and led by the Holy Spirit. We are to win others to Him.
Future Hopes and Dreams
As I truly enjoy my walk with God, I will see the desires of my heart revealed. I hope to serve as a Life Coach in some capacity that matches up with some of my gifts. Eventually, I hope to be part of a ministry that facilitates reconciliation and collaboration for ministries that are active in Native American outreach. I have been blessed to spend a lot of time serving on the Pine Ridge and Navajo Reservations. I plan to continue that and also help those full-time ministries be more supported so that they could work closer with their neighboring ministries.
The Life Coaching program at CLI will equip me in so many ways. At this point in my life, many of the other Christian Life Coaching programs are so pricey that it is not something I could pursue. I am thankful that the Christian Leaders program is available in a way that is affordable and a blessing.

Hello, my name is Mike Morton. I live in Columbus, Ohio. God’s calling me to golf ministry and life coaching in what I refer to as the “back nine” of my life. Seeking ministry training online for my calling to golf ministry, I found the Christian Leaders Institute (Learn more about studying the Bible online, Click Here).
I am the father of two grown children and husband to a godly wife named Kristina. Kristina and I were baptized at the age of 50. It was on September 7, 2021, after accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Transformation in Christ
Like many men who arrive at my stage in life, a feeling of emptiness often accompanied the reality that my next big worldly accomplishment wouldn’t fulfill the ambitions I have because of the insecurities I possess. This was also a truism for every major milestone in my early life in competitive sports and throughout my business career. Awards, promotions, advanced degrees, credentials, material items, nothing was enough. I was never quite sure why I just couldn’t feel satisfied.
In a series of events that began in earnest in 2019, the Lord started the process of changing my heart. Over the past three years, He has led me on a journey. God shifted my focus away from the things of this world that I overvalued. He pointed me towards a walk centered in Christ.
As I slowly progressed in my transformation, several friends noticed. At first, I was reluctant to acknowledge the changes they observed in me. Mostly, I was afraid that they might treat me differently. However, as God continued to work on my heart, I realized that submitting to Christ was the answer to years of insecurities, frustrations, and guilt. Now, I must witness on His behalf.
Living For The Kingdom: God’s Calling to Golf Ministry
Kristina and I volunteer as leaders in our guest services group at our local church. Our church’s mission is to bring people with questions and doubts into a community that supports them on their journey. Connecting with our new guests is a very rewarding experience that fills me with the Holy Spirit. My question was: how can I extend my work beyond the walls of our local church?
As an avid golfer and part-time instructor, I lead a local men’s league in Columbus, Ohio. Consequently, I have developed many friendships in and around the game. The four hours spent in a golf cart with another guy can be eye-opening. Of course, there are the shared emotions of the game: some good shots and more bad ones for most of us. But there are also times, usually towards the end of the round, when mental and/or physical fatigue takes over. This is the time in which some guys let their guard down a bit and even share their souls. In these times, a seed can be planted.
Recently, I joined a national organization called, In His Grip Golf. It is a group of men (who happen to golf) with the mission of encouraging and equipping other men to place God first in life, family, and business. I will be launching the organization’s first life group in Columbus, OH later this year. I hope to utilize the training I receive at Christian Leaders Institute to support my walk with these men.
