The Cat’s Eye Nebula – an amazing planetary nebula with a white dwarf in the center.
The Spirograph Nebula – also showing the white dwarf star in the center.
A white dwarf (in the bottom left) is still hot, but it is much smaller than it originally was.

A white dwarf is a star that has collapsed down to about the size of the earth.
White dwarfs contain the carbon ashes that the star has left behind. Some astronomers speculate that this carbon could cool and form giant diamonds the size of planets.
