Commended Minister
a formal lay minister training and minister credentialing program

Are you an active Christian who is called to minister in a specific area?  Are you a layperson who senses a call to ministry? Are called to ministry? Are you looking for a lay minister credential program that includes specific ministry training and lay minister credentials? A program that may take you less than three months of part-time study to complete.

The commended minister program is a formal lay minister training and endorsement-based credentialing program for lay ministers. After leaders complete ministry training courses at Christian Leaders Institute, you are invited to become credentialed with the Christian Leaders Alliance through a process that includes endorsements from your circle of influence.

The Christian Leaders Institute has been offering formal ministry training since 2006. Hundreds of thousands have enrolled. Tens of thousands have completed courses and programs. Christian Leaders Alliance has credentialed lay, licensed, and ordained ministers since 2014. Thousands are members of the Christian Leaders Alliance directory. Christian Leaders Alliance has an international Global Ministers Commission. Click here.

Why are commended minister credentials necessary? Because the early church understood that Christian leaders need ministry training and that these same leaders must be recommended by others and not themselves. Barnabas commended Paul in Acts 9. The Apostle Paul commended Phoebe in Roman 16:1-2.

I commend our sister Phoebe, a minister, servant, deacon (Diakonos)  of the church in Cenchrea. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints and give her any help she may need from you, for she has been a great help to many people, including me. Romans 16:1-2

Phoebe was trained in ministry and endorsed. The Apostle Paul reflects this truth when he commends her to the Romans. She was the letter carrier of the Epistle of the Romans. Many people believe that she was ordained as a deacon because the Greek word “diakonos” describes her. Often translators have used the word “servant” here. Phoebe was a minister, whether she was given formal lay minister training or mobilized as an early deacon like Philip or Stephen.

The story of Phoebe inspires the commended minister program!

This commended minister program fits many men or women who may not want to be licensed or ordained at present but want to serve as lay ministers in their local context. We have three endorsement levels for increasing levels of credibility. These endorsements include such people as spouses, mentors, church leaders, and pastors.

For many who enter this lay ministry training and credentialing program, this will be their first step to more ministry training and more ministry roles. In addition, this new commended minister program is a preliminary step for their calling discernment journey.

Step Two: Endorsements for ministry readiness for a lay minister training program

Christian Leaders Alliance requires local endorsements. This program is beyond an online training and credentialing program. These endorsements establish local credibility that others see you as a practicing Christian called to ministry.

In this step, you will enroll in the Endorsement Level 1-3 Class.  You will need to gather at least one recommendation. That will give you Endorsement Level 1 Status.  Endorsement Level 1 is required for this program.

Most lay minister training programs do not have endorsements. We believe this will strengthen your credibility if you are interested in pursuing these opportunities.
