I decided to follow Jesus and to do what He wanted me to do with my life, serving Him as best I could.
As a boy, I was inspired by her faith. I made a little pulpit and cross out of wood scraps and held “church” under a pecan tree in our backyard. I would preach to whoever would listen, which was usually just my little brother.
Those are warm memories, but behind them was pain I did not yet understand. I was abused as a child by a family member. At the time, I received no support or counseling, and that wound stayed with me for many years. It was not until my 50s that true healing began. By the grace of God, what once felt like secret shame has become part of my testimony of His restoring power.
Finding Jesus at a Revival
In 1981, during a church revival in Oakville, Texas, I gave my life to Jesus Christ. My best friend Doug and I walked down the aisle together. It was a personal, emotional, and unforgettable moment. Jesus called, and I answered.
I did not know then how many twists and turns my life would take, but I knew that night that I belonged to Him.
Doug and I became very close. We sang songs on the school bus, played basketball at church, and shared a friendship rooted in those early years of faith. Life eventually took us in different directions, and Doug passed away young. Even so, those memories and that shared step toward Christ have stayed with me.
The Long Road to Maturity
Over the years, I faced many battles. I struggled with food addiction, pornography, past trauma, and physical health challenges. Each of those struggles became a barrier between me and the life God wanted for me.
But little by little, God broke through.
There came a point of surrender when the weight of everything was too much. I realized I could not fix myself. That was when God became more than someone I believed in. He became the One I depended on.
In my 50s, the Lord began healing some of my deepest wounds. He delivered me from addiction. He brought peace where there had once been pain. He showed me that redemption is real.
A New Dream Takes Shape
Today, my dream is simple but powerful: to help the broken, the addicted, and the imprisoned find freedom through Jesus Christ.
I want to walk with people, support them, and point them to the same healing the Lord has given me. That is one reason I enrolled with Christian Leaders Ministries. Through this training, I am gaining tools that help me serve more faithfully the people God places in my path.
Living in Woodsboro, online training is a perfect fit. I can study at my own pace and apply what I learn right away in jail ministry and Life Recovery groups. I also hope to become a certified Christian life coach and perhaps even a chaplain someday.
My heart is with people who feel trapped, broken, or forgotten. I want them to know there is hope in Jesus Christ and that they are not alone.
Why Free Training Matters
I live on a fixed income, and I do not have easy access to seminaries or formal ministry schools. That is why free training through Christian Leaders Ministries has been such a gift from God.
It allows me to grow in knowledge, ministry skill, and spiritual maturity without financial strain. It is helping equip me to become the servant God has called me to be.
A Life Being Redeemed
From a young boy preaching under a pecan tree to a man serving in jails and recovery settings, my life is a testimony of God’s redemption.
And by His grace, the journey is not over.
