Henry Reyenga, Jr., President of Christian Leaders NFP, Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders College
Henry Reyenga Jr. has more than twenty-five years of experience as a church planter and pastor of four new churches and one replanted church. He has authored three books. His latest book, Raising Up Revival Leaders outlines the Christian Leaders Institute vision and methodology. Order an e-book here or order a print Copy here. Henry Reyenga has traveled and spoken internationally. He founded Christian Leaders Institute in 2002. Christian Leaders Institute has grown from six new students in 2006 to over 35,000 students. There are graduates in over 140 countries.
Henry Reyenga graduated from Dordt College in 1983 and Calvin Seminary in 1987. He is married to Pamela. They have five children and ten grandchildren.
Dr. David Feddes, Provost Of Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders Degree Program
Dr. David Feddes is Provost of Christian Leaders Institute. He pastored a church in Ontario, Canada, and helped plant Family of Faith Church, Monee, IL. For sixteen years, he served as broadcast minister for the Back to God radio program, reaching people in more than fifty countries. He also worked with Crossroad Bible Institute, providing biblical distance education to thousands of people in prison. David earned his Ph.D. in missions and intercultural studies from Trinity International University, Deerfield, IL. He has published a book called, Missional Apologetics. Bob Zomermaand, Dean of Christian Leaders Degree Program
Bob Zomermaand grew up on a farm in Northwest Iowa during the days when agriculture was still a major employer in North America. He attended a small private college and received BA in History and Philosophy.
Bob received his Master of Divinity degree from Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. Later he attended Princeton Seminary, where he received Master of Theology from Princeton Seminary in 1988. He has served several churches in both church planting and pastoring. Bob has taught at the University of Phoenix.
Bob is pursuing the development of additional “core” courses to allow Christian Leaders to offer Christian Leaders College Degree.
Dr. Ed Roels – E-Professor in Theology
Dr. Ed Roels has written outstanding material, and much of it is being used at Christian Leaders Institute. He has a long ministry and ministry training career that spans five decades. Dr. Roels was educated at Calvin College, Calvin Seminary and the Free University of Amsterdam (Th.D.). At these schools and institutions of learning, Dr. Roels developed his Biblical and academic voice.

Dr. Ed Roels joined the faculty of Christian Leaders Institute in 2012. His book Christian Basics is a critical part of the Getting Started Class. Dr. Paul Mpindi – Dean of French Language
Dr. Paul Mpindi is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is married to Charlotte Mpindi, and they have three sons. The Mpindis have been living in Grand Rapids Michigan for the past 21 years. Rev. Mpindi came to the Lord at the age of 15, and received God’s calling for ministry in his twenties. After graduating from, and teaching at Bangui Evangelical Theological Seminary (BEST) in Central African Republic, Paul and his family moved to Grand Rapids in 1993, where he completed a second Masters in Old Testament Studies, and a Ph.D. in Historical Theology.
Dr. Mpindi is the the also director of Mission French Africa; a radio ministry focused on Evangelism, discipleship and stewardship in French Africa. For the past 15 years, Dr. Mpindi and his wife Charlotte, have developed a daily audience of more than 30 million listeners throughout French Africa, Europe, and Haiti. Dr. Mpindi is a lecturer in seminaries in the USA, Europe, and Africa.
Wally De La Fuente – Spanish Language Director
Wally De La Fuente, born Osvaldo De La Fuente Jr., has over 15 years experience working in ministry. He started out at Collins College in Tempe, AZ with a small Bible study that grew to over 100 students within a two-month period. He then returned to his hometown of El Paso, TX where he was the Video Director at a Church that grew from 6,000 members to 30,000 within a 6-year period. He is now a Youth Leader, College Class leader, on the Worship Team and head of the Audio/Visual Department at Sunshine Community Church in El Paso, TX.
Wally has received many awards for commercials and short films such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Editing and more. He received his A. A. in Media Arts at Collins College and is now pursuing His Bachelor’s in Marketing Management at Western Governor’s University and is just a few credits away from receiving his Associates and Bachelor’s at Christian Leader’s Institute. He is married and a father of three and a God-fearing husband.
Brian DeCook – E-Professor in Reconciliation and Church Law
Brian DeCook, JD, is an attorney and Executive Director of Peacefire.net which seeks to apply Biblical principles to conflict resolution. He offers expertise in matters concerning the church and government law. He graduated from DePaul School of Law. He and his wife Andrea have four children.
Brian DeCook also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Christian Leaders Institute. He has served on the board of directors of Christian Leaders Institute for over a decade. He is developing a chaplaincy diploma at Christian Leaders Institute. This chaplaincy diploma will to focused on raising up ministry chaplains to serve the Kingdom in various roles ranging from hospitals to sports chaplaincy.
Ben Ingebretson E-Professor of Church Renewal
Ben Ingebretson is a consultant, trainer and coach serving multiple denominations and churches. An experienced church planter and parent church leader, he has led in church planting for over 15 years regional and national levels in the United States. He developed systems and best practice training for church planters and parent congregations. He has coached and supervised church planters in urban, rural and suburban setting and currently focuses his energy on immigrant planting.
He is author of Multiplication Moves: A field guide for churches planting churches and of Parent Church Landmines. Ben is also a lead revitalizations of Churches working with pastors and leaders to help them more effectively transform their communities. Ben holds an M.Div degree from Bethel Seminary, St.Paul and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Norwich University. He lives in Michigan with his family where he enjoys four seasons and diverse relationships.
Dr. Ted Hildebrandt E-professor from Gordon College
Gordon College is a leader in providing high quality Christian Liberal Arts education at the college level. Gordon has made resources available on the worldwide web. We partner with Gordon in their desire to glorify God in making ministry training available for those who can not receive residential ministry training.
Dr. Hildebrandt is a world leader in developing high quality materials for the free model of ministry training. Check out resources that he has pioneered at Gordon College.
Gordon Professor Dr. Hildebrandt shares the passion of bringing high quality teaching everywhere. He wrote, “My desire is to make solid biblical studies resources available to anyone who has the desire to learn at anytime and anywhere in the world, especially those who are unable economically or geographically to access such resources.”
Ted Hildebrandt earned his B. A. at Buffalo State University of New York and a M. Div. S.T. M. from Biblical Theological Seminary. He studied for one year at the Jerusalem University College and has a M.A. and a Th. D. in Old Testament from Grace Theological Seminary. Ted taught for over two decades at Grace College, Winona Lake, IN and now for over a decade at Gordon College, Wenham, MA.
Wayne Brouwer is the husband of Brenda (nee: Karsten), and they are parents of three daughters: Kristyn, Kimberly, and Kaitlyn.
Wayne has pastored congregations in Alberta and Ontario, Canada, and Michigan, United States. He has served as a missionary teacher in Nigeria, and has taught at several colleges and seminaries in North America. Wayne has written more than seven hundred articles that have appeared in journals such as Leadership, Christianity Today, Preaching, Interpretation, Calvin Theological Journal, and Vital Ministry, and has authored over a dozen books including the second revised edition of his best-selling Covenant Documents: Reading the Bible Again for the First Time (Cognella), They All Were Looking for a King… (CSS), Being a Believer in a Non-Believing World (Hendrickson), Humming Till the Music Returns (CSS) and The Literary Development of John 13-17: A Chiastic Reading (SBL). He has a weekly radio program on WHTC, and serves as Vice-President for Curriculum Development at the Church Leadership Center. In 2005 Wayne transitioned from a role as Senior Pastor of Harderwyk Ministries in Holland, Michigan, to position as Associate Professor of Religion at Hope College, and Adjunct Professor of Theology and Ministry at Western Theological Seminary, both also in Holland. He holds degrees from Dordt College (B.A.), Calvin Theological Seminary (M.Div., Th.M.), and McMaster University (M.A., Ph.D.).
Ren Broekhuizen – E-Professor in Evangelism
Rensselaer Owen (“Ren”) Broekhuizen graduated from Calvin College, Westminster Theological Seminary and Calvin Theological Seminary. Ren Broekhuizen served congregations of the Christian Reformed Church in the United States in Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan, as well as serving as a world missionary in Liberia, West Africa.
In 1993 Ren Broekhuizen was part of a group founding the Ridge Point Community Church in Holland, Michigan, a ministry that exists intentionally to bring lost persons to full life in Christ. He retired from the active congregational ministry in 2003.
In February-April 2013, Ren Broekhuizen recorded a new e-class at Christian Leaders Institute on “Evangelism Presenting Grace.”
Ray Vander Laan
Ray received his Master’s of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1976, Ray Vander Laan has been actively involved in studying and teaching Jewish culture using the methods of Jewish education. He has continued graduate studies in Jewish Studies in the United States, Israel, Turkey and Egypt. Ray has been teaching high school for 35 years. He is an ordained minister with the Christian Reformed Church. “Echoes of His Presence” is a book Ray wrote, which was published by Focus on the Family. In 1998, Vander Laan founded That the World May Know Ministries. Over 10,000 people have joined him in study tours of Israel, Turkey and Egypt. Andrew Vanden Heuvel – Science Professor
Andrew Vanden Heuvel comes from a long line of preachers and teachers. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Andrew graduated from Calvin College and ultimately earned an M.S. in astrophysics from the University of Florida. He is the founding director of AGL Initiatives, where he teaches and develops online courses for the high school, college, and graduate level.
Andrew has received recognition for his innovative teaching methods including being named a National Online Teacher of the Year finalist, an Aspen Teacher Leader Fellow, and a Google Glass Explorer. Andrew is passionate about integrating his Christian faith with scientific discoveries of the natural world, and has shared this passion by developing an astronomy course for the Christian Leaders Divinity Degree Program.
Rev. Steve Elzinga – E-Professor
Rev. Steve Elzinga, MDiv, a graduate of Calvin Theological Seminary, is a pastor and church planter with ministry experience in the Philippines, Canada, and the United States. While serving with the Bible League, he traveled to various countries and authored a number of ministry training books. He is married to Marie and has four grown sons (three married and one in college) and three grandchildren.

Dr. Jeff Weima – E-Professor in Biblical Hermeneutics from Calvin Seminary
Dr. Jeffrey Weima is Professor of New Testament at Calvin Theological Seminary, where he has taught for the past 21 years. He is a sought-after speaker who is able to communicate well the truths of the Bible in an interesting, contemporary and practical manner. Jeff is the author of numerous scholarly articles, academic essays and book reviews. He has published three books (Neglected Endings: The Significance of the Pauline Letter Closings ; An Annotated Bibliography of 1 and 2 Thessalonians ; 1 & 2 Thessalonians ) and has recently completed writing a major commentary on 1 and 2 Thessalonians (Baker Books: 2014). He has taught courses all over the world: Hungary, Greece, South Korea, Kenya, Taiwan, The Philippines, and South Africa. Jeff also is an active member of several academic societies, lectures overseas, leads biblical study tours to Greece, Turkey and Italy, conducts intensive preaching seminars for pastors, and preaches widely in the Christian Reformed Church as well as many other churches in both the USA and Canada.
Jeff and his wife, Bernice, have been married for 30 years. They have four children and some grand children.
Chris Engelsma – E-Professor of Core English
My name is Chris Engelsma. I created the English course here at CLI. My experience with languages goes back nearly fifteen years. I graduated from Cornerstone Univ. in Grand Rapids, MI with a bachelor’s degree in ancient languages. I then when on to Calvin Seminary where I graduated with an MTS degree. After seminary, I taught History, Grammar, and Literature at a junior high school. It primarily here that I developed a lasting passion for the teaching of language and grammar. I carried this passion with me to Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary where I created online courses in Hebrew, Greek, and English. Learning language is so foundational to everything you study. I look forward to assisting students everywhere in mastering the English language.
John DeVries – E-Professor in Saturation Evangelism
John DeVries has written over 40 books on bringing the gospel to various people groups world-wide. He was an executive leader at the Bible League for many years. He founded Mission India. Dr. Bruce Ballast – E-Professor in Missions
Dr. Bruce Ballast has been serving Churches in North America for over 30 years. Currently, Bruce Ballast is the senior pastor at Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven, Michigan, USA. The Late Dr. Francis Schaeffer January 30, 1912 – May 15, 1984
Christian Leaders Institute in partnership with Vision Video and Christian History Institute has integrated teachings from the late Dr. Francis Schaeffer into the Ethics class at Christian Leaders Institute. Francis August Schaeffer was an American Evangelical Christian theologian, philosopher, and Presbyterian pastor. He is most famous for his writings and his establishment of the L’Abri community in Switzerland. (Wikipedia)
Dr. Schaeffer had published 16 important books. Today the legacy of Dr. Francis Schaeffer continues to live on. In 1955 Dr. Schaeffer and his wife Edith started “Labri” (sheltering) places of study and rest. Click here to go to the Labri website.
Duane Nieuwsma – E-Chapels
Duane Nieuwsma: Following his graduation from Dordt College in 1971 and pursuing graduate studies in the History and Philosophy of Science at the Universities of Wisconsin and Toronto, Duane began his ministry career in 1973 as a Christian High School teacher and lay leader in the church. In 1986, responding to a special call of God, he returned to school to prepare for pastoral leadership. He subsequently graduated from Tyndale and Calvin Seminaries and pastored churches in Battle Creek and Dorr, Michigan. Rev. Nieuwsma has a special interest in cross-cultural ministry. He has taught in Liberia and Myanmar and led his churches in assisting refugee resettlement. He is married to Barb, and has two married children and three beautiful granddaughters.
Ken Dignan – E-Professor in Disabilities Concerns
Ken Dignan is an ordained minister and began his ministry education at North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Pastoral Theology; he then attended seminary at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri where he received a Masters Degree for Biblical Studies and Christian Counseling; and then went on to study through Carolina University of Theology of Manassas, Virginia, where in 1999 he received a Doctor of Theology degree (Th.D.). He and his wife Joni have four children(one in heaven) and some grandchildren.

Dr. Drew Brown – E-Professor in Pastoral Care
Dr. Drew Brown is Pastor of Discipleship at Crossroads Community Church, Schererville, Indiana. He has more than 20 years of experience in ministry and church planting, serving congregations in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Jersey, and now Indiana. Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University, his Master of Divinity from Grace Theological Seminary, and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Carrie, are the parents of five children.

Joel Miller – E-Professor in Practical Theology
Joel Miller is planting The Summit, a church plant in North Dallas, Texas. Prior to the pastorate, Joel had a very successful business career with Marriott and Steelcase International. Joel has served as a pastor for 13 years. He was mentored by Alex Haley, the author of Roots. Joel studied in both Africa and Central America. He also served as an officer in the United States Air Force. He did graduate work at Fuller Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. Joel is a national conference speaker and serves as a consultant to both businesses and churches alike. He has a proven track record of developing and cultivating cultures that multiply impact leaders. Joel also serves as a personal coach to church planters around the United States and abroad. Joel is a dynamic communicator, preacher, teacher and a gifted leader and evangelist. Joel has been married to his wife Michelle for twenty years. They have four children.
Pedro Aviles – E-Professor in Bible
Pedro Aviles earned his Bachelor’s degree from Trinity International University and his Master’s degree from North Park Seminary. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Rev. Aviles has pastored Grace and Peace Fellowship in Chicago for more than 20 years. He also serves as professor of church and ministry leadership at Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, Illinois. He was previously a campus minister with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Pedro and his wife, Diana, are the parents of three children. Pedro has presented lectures in the Bible Survey classes.
Dr. Voddie Baucham – E-Professor in Apologetics
Dr. Voddie Baucham is a graduate of Southwestern and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminaries. He also studied at Oxford. An author of two books, he has lectured at various seminaries and at many conferences. He pastors Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas, which he helped to plant. Along with his wife Bridget, he is deeply involved in the education of their four children.

Christian Leaders Institute has taken free online resources and turned them into high-quality classes with quizzes and other effective resources. CLI does not hold to all the theological and worldview beliefs of these faculty members. We do appreciate visionary willingness to make top-quality lectures available for use for such institutes like CLI. Many of these professors will be featured in the degree program of Divinity.
Dr. Kevin Leman – Christian Psychologist, Author, and Counselor
Dr. Kevin Leman (Tucson, Arizona, USA) is a psychologist and New York Times Bestselling. Author of more than 40 books. He is dealing with topics that range from raising children and birth order to business and marriage.
Leman has appeared on many radio and television programs, including The View with Barbara Walters, Today, Oprah, CBS’s The Early Show, Live with Regis Philbin, 100 Huntley Street, CNN’s American Morning, and Life Today with James Robison. Leman has served as a contributing family psychologist to Good Morning America. Dr. Martha Olney, University of California
Dr. Martha Olney, University of California, Berkley – Martha Olney is a permanent Adjunct Professor of Economics (2002-) at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a winner of local and national teachingawards, and has authored several leading undergraduate economics textbooks. Olney received her Ph.D. in Economics in 1985 from the University of California, Berkeley. Her dissertation work on consumer durables, the advent of consumer credit in the 1920s, and the Great Depression, led to a book, “Buy Now, Pay Later: Advertising, Credit, and Consumer Durables in the 1920s,” and several related journal articles. Dr. Sally Vaughn – University of Houston
Dr. Vaughn is a scholar of Medieval history, specifically the Medieval church, the Normans and St. Anselm of Bec and Canterbury. Vaughn received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is the co-founder and first director of the Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at the University of Houston, and the co-founder, first Vice President and Conference Director of the Charles Homer Haskins Society for Viking, Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Norman and Angevin History, which met at the University of Houston for its first fifteen years (1981-1996). She has served two terms as president of the Texas Medieval Association (2005 and 2012). Professor Vaughn has also served as the chair of the Undergraduate Committee and on the Executive Committee and the Graduate Committee in the History Department. She has directed numerous Ph. D. dissertations and M.A. theses.
Dr. Tyrone Tillery – University of Houston
Dr. Tillery is a scholar of U.S. history who specializes in African American and Civil Rights history. He received his Ph.D. from Kent State University. Professor Tillery has served as the executive director of the NAACP, Detroit Branch. He is the winner of the 1993 Gustavus Myers Center Outstanding Book Award on the subject of intolerance in the United States
Dr. Tillery’s undergraduate classes include African American history since 1877, Twentieth Century Black Protest, The Harlem Renaissance, and Introduction to African-American Studies. He also offers distance education courses. Professor Tillery teaches graduate seminars in the Civil Rights Movement; Literature and History of the Harlem Renaissance; and the Life and Times of W.E.B. Du Bois.
