There are many different types of galaxies visible in the sky.
The grand design spiral, M51 (The Whirlpool Galaxy), is actually two galaxies in the process of colliding with each other.
Elliptical galaxies are essentially giant balls full of stars.

Some spiral galaxies have bars across the center.
The Hubble Tuning Fork diagram is a useful tool for classifying galaxies.
