Bible Reading - A spiritual discipline
How often do you spend time in God's Word? Learn more about Bible Reading as a spiritual discipline.
The Word of God is a weapon
Bible reading, devotions, and spending time in God’s word is a fundamental spiritual discipline. This is the action of ensuring we build our relationship with Christ. We need to talk, but even more so in relationships, we need to spend time listening.
- Weapon against the devil's schemes
- Best way to defend ourselves
- Importance of forming a reading routine
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12
Bible Reading as a Spiritual Discipline
In addition to prayer,
reading the Bible is an important aspect in growing our relationship with the Lord. Scripture is our chance to listen and arm ourselves with the powerful weapon that God provides.
In Matthew 4:1-1, Jesus quotes the Scripture all three times to combat Satan's temptations. That sets such a powerful example for us. We can resist the devil best by knowing the Scripture. Jesus did not stray in one way from the Word of God. The word of God is our foundation to stand strong in our faith.
Hebrews 4:12 says the Word of God it is alive and it is active. It did not become outdated two thousand years ago. It is very relevant for us today. Even going a day without Bible reading, we will notice our soul getting a spiritual headache. We will be more vulnerable to temptation and less connected to our heavenly Father.
