CLI Faculty

Our faculty members combine keen intellect with enthusiastic experience in outreach and ministry. We strongly believe in making disciples of all nations. All CLI professors have advanced degrees, almost all have planted a church, and most have international or intercultural mission experience. CLI professors believe that Bible-based home-discipleship builds spiritual strength and intergenerational Christianity.

Henry Reyenga, Jr. President and E-Professor

Henry Reyenga Jr. – Henry Reyenga  has more than twenty-five years of experience as a church planter and pastor of four new churches and one replanted church.  He has authored two books. His latest book, Online Ministry Training outlines the Christian Leaders Institute vision and methodology. He founded Christian Leaders Institute in 2002.  Christian Leaders Institute has grown from six new students in 2006 to over 18,000 new students in 2012. With over 1200 diploma seeking students, CLI is a world leader in online ministry training.

Henry Reyenga graduated from Dordt College in 1983 and Calvin Seminary in 1987. He is married to Pamela. They have five children and seven grandchildren.

Dr. David Feddes, Provost and E-Professor

Dr. David Feddes is Provost of Christian Leaders Institute. He pastored a church in Ontario, Canada, and helped plant Family of Faith Church, Monee, IL. For sixteen years, he served as broadcast minister for the Back to God radio program, reaching people in more than fifty countries. He also worked with Crossroad Bible Institute, providing biblical distance education to thousands of people in prison. David earned his Ph.D. in missions and intercultural studies from Trinity International University, Deerfield, IL. He has published a book called, Missional Apologetics. Dr. Ed Roels – E-Professor of Theology

Dr. Ed Roels has written outstanding material and much of it is being used at Christian Leaders Institute. He has a long ministry and ministry training career that spans five decades. Dr. Roels was educated at Calvin College, Calvin Seminary and the Free University of Amsterdam (Th.D.). At these schools and institutions of learning, Dr. Roels developed his Biblical and academic voice.

Dr. Ed Roels joined the faculty of Christian Leaders Institute in 2013. His book Christian Basics is a critical part of the Getting Started Class. The Getting Started Class includes thousands of students from over 150 nations. Students have commented that this book clearly and distinctly sums up thousands of pages of scripture passages and clearly spells out the essence of the Christian Basics that have been passed down through history. With the Bible as his base, Dr. Roels expertly brings students through topics such as God, the Trinity, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Church, Death, the Second Coming and much more.

Bruce Ballast – E-Professor of Mission

Dr. Bruce Ballast has been serving Churches in North America for over 30 years. Currently, Bruce Ballast is the Senior pastor at Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven, Michigan, USA. Bruce Ballast has authored Ordinary People, Extraordinary Things: How God Brings Revival. This book focuses on revivals in the United States and draws lessons from those events. He is married to Pat and they have three married children with grand children.

Dr. Bruce Ballast teaches a large section of the Missions and Revival class based on his book, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Things: How God Brings Revival. In this book, Ballast outlines the great mission and revival movements that characterized the American scene.

 

 

Ren Broekhuizen – E-Professor of Evangelism

Rensselaer Owen (“Ren”) Broekhuizen graduated from Calvin College, Westminster Theological Seminary and Calvin Theological Seminary.  Ren Broekhuizen served congregations of the Christian Reformed Church in the United States in Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan, as well as serving as a world missionary in Liberia, West Africa.

In 1993 Ren Broekhuizen was part of a group founding the Ridge Point Community Church in Holland, Michigan, a ministry that exists intentionally to bring lost persons to full life in Christ. He retired from the active congregational ministry in 2003.

In February-April 2013, Ren Broekhuizen recorded a new e-class at Christian Leaders Institute on “Evangelism Presenting Grace.” The class is scheduled to be live before the end of 2013.

Rev. Steve Elzinga – E-Professor of Preaching and Chruch Planting

Rev. Steve Elzinga, MDiv, a graduate of Calvin Theological Seminary, is a pastor and church planter with ministry experience in the Philippines, Canada, and the United States. While serving with the Bible League, he traveled to various countries and authored a number of ministry training books. He is married to Marie and has four grown sons (three married and one in college) and three grandchildren.

David Graves – E-Professor of Old Testament

David Graves is a graduate of Ohio State University. He earned a Master of Divinity and PhD in Theological Studies with an emphasis in Old Testament from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is married to Rebekah and has two children.

Ken Dignan – E-Professor of Disabilities Concerns

Ken Dignan is an ordained minister and began his ministry education at North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible and Pastoral Theology; he then attended seminary at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri where he received a Masters Degree for Biblical Studies and Christian Counseling; and then went on to study through Carolina University of Theology of Manassas, Virginia, where in 1999 he received a Doctor of Theology degree (Th.D.).

Dr. Voddie Baucham of Apologetics

Dr. Voddie Baucham is a graduate of Southwestern and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminaries. He also studied at Oxford. An author of two books, he has lectured at various seminaries and at many conferences. He pastors Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas, which he helped to plant. Along with his wife Bridget, he is deeply involved in the education of their four children.

Dr. Drew Brown – E-Professor of Pastoral Care

Dr. Drew Brown is Pastor of Discipleship at Crossroads Community Church, Schererville, Indiana. He has more than 20 years of experience in ministry and church planting, serving congregations in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Jersey, and now Indiana. Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University, his Master of Divinity from Grace Theological Seminary, and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Carrie, are the parents of five children.

Brian Decook – E-Professor of Reconciliation and Church Law

Brian DeCook, JD, is an attorney and Executive Director of Peacefire.net  which seeks to apply Biblical principles to conflict resolution. He offers expertise in matters concerning the church and government law. He graduated from DePaul School of Law. He and his wife Andrea are bringing up four children.

Joel Miller E-Professor of Practical Theology

Joel Miller is planting The Summit, a church plant in North Dallas, Texas. Prior to the pastorate, Joel had a very successful business career with Marriott and Steelcase International. Joel has served as a pastor for 13 years. He was mentored by Alex Haley, the author of Roots. Joel studied in both Africa and Central America. He also served as an officer in the United States Air Force. He did graduate work at Fuller Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. Joel is a national conference speaker and serves as a consultant to both businesses and churches alike. He has a proven track record of developing and cultivating cultures that multiply impact leaders. Joel also serves as a personal coach to church planters around the United States and abroad. Joel is a dynamic communicator, preacher, teacher and a gifted leader and evangelist. Joel has been married to his wife Michelle for twenty years. They have four children.

Pedro Aviles – E-Professor of Bible

Pedro Aviles earned his Bachelor’s degree from Trinity International University and his Master’s degree from North Park Seminary. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Rev. Aviles has pastored Grace and Peace Fellowship in Chicago for more than 20 years. He also serves as professor of church and ministry leadership at Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, Illinois. He was previously a campus minister with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Pedro and his wife, Diana, are the parents of three children.
